[N] Well hey there guys, how's it going?
Got another tutorial for you.
This is Yesterday by Atmosphere.
This one was requested by a ton of people over the past few months, including Topher
Mesa, Tetsuji and I, Andrew Maloney.
Got a bunch of requests for this one so hopefully
you guys will dig this.
And as always, if there's a song that you would like to see
me do a tutorial for, just leave it in the comment section below.
I do read all the comments
and all the requests and I try to get to as many of them as I possibly can and put
out these tutorials pretty regularly.
So let's get right into it.
Alright, so as you can
see I've got the sheet music, I've got the annotations with all the note letter names,
and I've got the keys down here on the bottom for you to follow along with.
If you'd like
to, you can download the sheet music that I have here in the video by clicking the link
in the description below.
So, Yesterday is a four measure loop with the piano, and what
I thought I would do is show you each part individually.
So I'll show you the left hand
first and then the right hand and then hands together.
But in the interest of saving time,
I'm just going to play each part through twice, because I actually recorded a full length
version of this tutorial and I was getting a little bit more in depth with it and it
just ended up being way too long.
So I'll just play it through twice and if you need
to rewind it to review each part, that's just fine.
So let's start with the left hand.
And
it starts here on the A below middle [A] C.
But if you're going to play it like the original,
it actually has octaves.
So you'd add the octave above the note that I've written in
the sheet music.
And that goes for every note in the tutorial here today.
[D]
The octaves for
each part through the entire thing.
So what I'm going to do is slow down the tempo.
The
original comes on at about 92 beats a minute.
I slowed it down to 50 and I'll play it through
twice with the left hand part by itself here.
[D] [A]
[Em] [D]
[G] [F]
[C] Here's the [A] top.
[D] [A]
[E] [D]
[G] [F]
[C]
Alright, that's the left hand
part.
So now let's take a look at the right hand.
And this is a little bit more complicated
than the left hand.
But what I tried to do was, if you know the original, you know that
there are a whole bunch of grace notes in the right hand piano part.
So I kept most
of them, but I took out some just to make it a little bit easier to play.
So if you
want, you can add in all the extra stuff, but I kind of made a more basic version of
it just so it would be a little bit easier to play through.
So it might not sound exactly
like the original, but hopefully it's enough to get you started and I think it sounds pretty
close anyway.
So here's the right hand part.
Again, I'm just going to play it through twice
at 50 beats a minute.
[G] [Em]
[D] [B] [A]
[F] [A]
[F] [C] [Cm]
Here's the [A] top.
[C] [D] [A] [G]
[F] [Cm]
[F] [C] [A]
Alright, so you may want to review those a little bit,
but hopefully that'll be a good start for you.
And let's try hands together here, again
at 50 beats a minute.
And I'll play that through twice for you.
[Em] [D] [A]
[D] [Dm]
[G] [F]
[C] Here's the top.
[E] [D] [A]
[D] [Dm]
[G] [F]
[C] [A]
And
then that takes you back to the top.
So it is only a four measure loop.
It is a little
bit tricky getting the hands together, but if you start off at a slow tempo, you should
be able to get it just fine if you gradually work it up back to the original tempo.
