_ [N] Hi, welcome to Working Man Studios.
This is Carl.
Today, I'm going to be talking about how to either use a mixer with your computer and
an audio interface.
Also, I'm going to show you how to hook up everything _ and what connections you need to
use and where you need to put them.
Just in case _ you don't know where or a lot of you have been asking, you know, how do
I do this?
How do I get started?
So, this video is for you guys on how to get started. _
So what you're going to need most definitely is a mixer, which this is a mixer.
You already know that.
And it's a Behringer _ _ _ UB1622FX Pro Euro Rack.
All that means is it's got a bunch of fancy effects that I sometimes use.
It's great for Skype.
I can do a lot of cool things with that, with reverbs and stuff like that on here. _
You don't really need it if you have a computer because then you'll probably have effects
on there and if you have effects yourself. _ _ _ _
Next, what you want to do is you want to have an XLR cable, a quarter inch cable, and you
want to have a mic and a guitar if you're going to record those.
_ Mic via _ _ XLR and you have a volume preamp.
And then you have guitar, quarter inch, or bass, whatever you want to put in there.
And you have a preamp for that too. _
Then you have your EQ selections. _
High, mid, mid frequency, low.
And you adjust those accordingly.
And you have your auxiliary section if you wanted to add effects in there that way.
You have your pan left and right.
_ _ You have your mute.
_ You have your volume slider.
_ Your main, sub, and solo switch.
_ _ _ Now what you want to do, connect your mic or guitar. _
Adjust everything accordingly. _ _ _ _
_ Unmute your channel. _ _ _
Adjust your volume which is normally going to be set to 0dB, so flat.
Then you want to select _ main, which is selected now.
_ Then you're going to come over here to your main mix _ _ and adjust to 0dB. _ _ _
Then to monitor, you would select on your source right here, you want to monitor the main mix.
So that's already selected.
And then you adjust your headphone accordingly. _ _ _
Here's where you would _ insert your headphones. _
Via quarter inch adapter. _ _ _
_ Now, _ since you have everything hooked up _ _ _ and you know that _ since you want everything going
through here and you selected you want _ it to go out to the mains _ _ _ via the main switch. _
_ _ _ _ Then these go out to either _ quarter inch main outputs _ _ or XLR main outputs. _
Then you also have many other outputs on the back. _ _
_ Now what you want to get is if you're using, I'm using quarter inch, so I would _ select
or input this _ _ _ cable.
This cable is a one female to two male adapter, quarter inch.
_ _ _ Now I need this out to go into _ this Behringer UCA 222 _ interface, which is hooked up to my
Mac via USB, _ which comes right there.
So how do I do that?
It's got these RCA type connectors.
How do I go from quarter inch to RCA? _ _ _
You do this.
_ They have a RCA to quarter inch cable. _ _ _
_ But uh oh, _ _ _ they're two females, they don't go together.
_ _ Sorry, they're two female, they don't go together.
_ Well, you're going to need a male to male.
_ Or if you want, you can get _ two male to a male adapter.
I haven't been able to find any, but I'm sure they're out there.
_ So all you got to do is connect that up.
_ _ [A#] _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
[N] _ _ That's ready to go.
_ Alright, everything's hooked up.
Your quarter inch main out, _ all the way to your quarter inch male to male, _ _ over to your _ _ _
female quarter inch to RCA, _ _ into the inputs of the UCA 222.
_ And then from there it goes to USB out, and all you got to do is go to GarageBand, _ down
here, whatever program you're using, and select _ the audio device.
I think it comes up as UCA. _
So that's all you have to do.
Just _ _ make sure that you have everything lined up, and if you have a mixer like this, make
sure, if you're not getting any sound out of your mains, make sure that whatever channels
you're using, all the mains are selected.
_ _ Or if you're using the subs, make sure you select the sub _ selection.
_ _ _ Alright, I hope that's been helpful.
