How To Sing David Coverdale - Whitesnake - Here I Go Again - Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy chords
Start Jamming...
Hey guys, welcome back again to Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy, where the proof really is in the singing.
I decided to take on another White Snake tune.
This time I chose Here I Go Again.
Now David Coverdale is actually one of my all-time favorite rock vocalists, and he came
from a band called Deep Purple, as you know.
You probably remember other singers like Glenn Hughes, Joel N.
Turner, Graham Bonnet, Ian Gillen…
All these guys were just amazing, so if you don't know them, look them up.
But anyway, we're going to focus on David, his compression, distortion, range, and power.
So we'll do it first, talk about it after, like we [D] always do.
Let's rock.

[D] [Em]
[Am] [C] Here I [G] go [Em] again,
[G] though I [D] keep searching for an [C] answer,
[G] never seem to find what I'm [C] looking for.
[G] Good Lord, I pray you give [C] me strength to carry on, [Am] cause I know what it [D] means [Am] to walk
along a lonely [D] street of dreams.
Here I go again on my own, going down the only road [C]
[G] I could drift [C] if I was one [D] to walk
[C] alone.
[B] [Am] I've made up my [D] mind,
[Am] I ain't wasting [D] no more time,
[G] just another heart in need of rescue,
waiting on love's sweet charity.
And I'm going to hold [Em] on for the rest [C] of my [Bm] days, [Am] cause I know [D] what it means [Am] to walk
along a lonely [D] street of dreams.
Here I go again on my own, [G] going down the only road [D]
[G] I could drift if [C] I was one [D] to walk alone.
[C]
[Am] I've made up [D] my mind, I ain't [Am] wasting [D] no more time.
Here I [E] go again, [Am] here [E] I go again, [Am] here I [Em] go again.

[D] [G]
[D] [Em] go again, here I go again, here I go again.
Love, Jemma Sykes.
[Am] Cause I know [D] what it means [Am] to walk along lonely [D] streets of dreams.
[G] Here I [C] go again on [D] my [C] own, [G] going down the [C] only road [D]
[G] I could drift if I was one to [D] walk [C] alone.
[Am] I've made up [D] my mind, I [Am] ain't wasting no [D] more time.
[G] Here I go [C] again on my [D] own, [G] going down the only road [D] [C]
[G] I could drift if I was [D] one to walk alone.
[Am] I've made up [D] my mind,
[Am] I ain't wasting no [D] more time.
Here I go [E] again, [Am] here I [Em] go.
[Am]
[G] [N] Okay, a lot of information on that one.
A lot of stuff going on here man.
Okay, so what's cool about David, he's basically a baritone like me, which can take a baritone
register and belt way up into the stratosphere, which is cool, and is par on his range.
But, by the way, if you liked what you heard, please like and subscribe to my channel.
That would be super awesome.

It's worthy.
Getting back to this, so, but David used a lot of what I call hyperglottal compression.
Fancy words.
What it is, is it's an understanding how to control the breath and get into smaller spaces
as we go up top.
So what we do, is as we go up top, we actually pare down the sound, close down the sound.
Now, it sounds like I'm killing it and opening it up and just like roaring, lying up top.
And I am, I am kicking butt.
I mean I've got my diaphragm working.
Check out my video on diaphragmatic support, all that stuff.
I'm definitely using a lot of strength.
No doubt.
I'm not saying I'm not.
But, what I'm doing is, I'm kind of deceiving you and making you think that you're hearing
a sound that's bigger than it really is.
I'm compressing the sound and making it smaller the higher up I go, and when I use
distortion even more so, so I can control the sound up and down the spectrum of the voice.
This is really, really critical and important.
Now, I cover all of this stuff in my singing course on how to attain and achieve this kind
of compression, but you have to start off clean first, and then eventually work your
way up to this kind of distortion for good vocal health.

Peace.
[D] [B] Yeah!
Oh!
Oh! Oh!
You've been
[A] Understruck!
[B] Understruck!
[A] [E] [A]
Understruck!
