Hungarian Dance No.
5 by [E] Brahms.
He composed [Dm] 21 pieces [Am] for four-hand piano.
So what exactly is that?
It's for one piano, two performers, each with two hands, four-hands piano.
These were completed in 1879, and this particular one is based off of a piece by this composer.
[E] Let's get started.
So it begins A minor [Am] chord, and I strum it.
So it goes half bar five.
[E]
So this chord right here is just like D7, except you're going to move it up two frets.
So you've got this.
[Am] So again, that first line.
[F#] [E]
Measure five has a D [Dm] minor chord, [D]
A minor chord.
[Am] [E]
[Em] So for that measure, [E] I do stop the bass.
I go like [D] this.
So I hit [G] it and then immediately put my thumb there to dampen that note.
So you've got this.
[Em] A [A] minor.
[Am] A minor chord again.
So for this part, I'm just rolling my fingers.
[E] So these three fingers right here.
[Am] [B] So measure ten, [Am] you've got this.
So that is one way to do it.
And the fingering that I have in the music is to go like this.
After you have
So switch to two and one instead of doing it this way.
This is how I've been playing it lately.
[G] So I just hold this chord, which is an A minor chord, and then I put my pinky there.
But that's kind of a stretch.
So you can go like this [A] if that's easier for you.
[E] So beginning at measure eleven.
[Am]
[G] Alright, measure thirteen.
So here [Dm] we have a run of sixteenth notes.
So you're going to [A] go
[F] So hammer on, [A] move down to [A] the fifth fret,
[Em] [E] third fret, [F] [C] first fret.
So again.
[A] [F]
[E] [Dm] [C]
[G] [Am]
[E] Which is the same as measure seven and eight.
After that, I go back to the beginning and I play it again.
Alright, and then we get to the B section, which begins at measure seventeen.
So I start off with octaves, one and four.
[Am] You [F] go up one fret.
And often [Em] what I'll do here is I'll slide down.
So I'll [E]
go
That type of thing.
[Em] Now as you [G] do that, your thumb slaps against the sixth string.
And I'm going straight down.
Straight down.
So [F#]
again, slowly.
[A] [G] [E]
So after that, I slide into the twelfth fret.
You don't have to do these slides if you don't want [C] to, by the way.
[G] [B] [E]
[D] Then the same thing is going to repeat, except we're going to be a couple frets down.
So it's at the tenth fret with the pinky.
[Em] [G]
And then measure twenty-five we're going [Bm] to slow things down.
We still keep the octaves.
[E] [Em]
[F] And then we have this.
This is an F major chord.
[F#]
[A] So again, measure twenty-five.
[E]
[C] [F] And when I strum that, I tend to use the flesh of my thumb.
It gives it a little different sound than if I use the nail.
So here's nail.
Brighter sound.
And then just the [A#] flesh of the thumb.
That's a less bright sound.
[F] [A] Alright, [E] then measure twenty-nine.
And then we're going to do octaves on the sixth and first string.
[G#m] I'm using [F#] two and three.
A [Am] minor chord.
So just straight down and up.
[F#] And then [B] from that point, I go back to measure seventeen and repeat it all again.
Now each time I do these repeats, I try and do them a little differently.
And once you play that, then you're going to go back to the very beginning and repeat that first page that we did.
And when
