Alright, so let's get started with the
tutorial.
We have just four basic chords and they're all down here.
If you already know them,
then feel free to skip ahead.
Our first chord is G and you're going to put your first finger on the
second fret of the third string, second finger on the second fret of the first string, and your
third finger on the third fret of the second string.
And here's G. _ _ _ _ _ _
_ [N] _ Then our next chord is D.
You're going to put your first finger on the second fret of the fourth string, second finger
on the second fret of the third string, and your third finger on the [D] second fret of the second
string.
And here's D. _
_ _ _ _ _ [N] Then we have E minor.
You're going to put your first finger on the second fret
of the first string, second finger on the third fret of the second string, and your third finger
on the fourth fret of the third string.
Here's E minor.
[Em] _ _ _ _ [D#] _ _
_ And then our last chord is good old C,
just the third finger on the third fret of the first string.
Here's C.
[C] _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ So if you'd like to play
in the original key, you'll have to tune your ukulele down by one half step.
Otherwise, we're
just going to be playing in this key. _ _
So first we're going to learn the verse and the pre-chorus.
They use [G] the same chord progression.
We have two bars of G, _ _ _ [E] then two bars of [D] D, _ _ _ _ [Em] two bars of E minor, _
_ _ _ _ [C] and then two bars of C.
_ _ _ _ _ _ _
[G] And for our strumming pattern, we're going to be doing down, down, up,
up, down, up on each chord.
So it sounds like this in the progression.
We have G, _ _ _ G again, _ _
[D] then D, _ and again, _ _ _ [Em] then E minor, _ _ _ _ _ and [C] then C. _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ So [N] this whole progression gets played three [G] times
in total for the verse and the pre-chorus.
So two times for the verse, one time for the pre-chorus.
Now here it is all the way through with the words. _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ [D] _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ [Em] _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ [C] _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ [G] _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ [Em] _ Without me, without [C] me, without me. _ _
_ _ [G] _ _ And he's long _ [D] _ gone when he's _ _ [Em] next to me.
And I _ _
[C] _ realize the blame is on me. _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _
[C#] So that's the verse and the pre-chorus.
Now we're going to learn how to play the chorus.
The first
half of our chord progression is down below, [Em] and you'll see that there are slashes next to the
chords.
That means that we're going to strum one time on each chord.
And so each chord will get
four beats, and then the chords in the brackets will each get two beats.
So here is this part of
the chord progression.
We have E minor, _ _
_ [C] then C, _ _ then [D] D, _ _ [G] and then [D] G, D.
_ And then that gets [Em] repeated.
We have E minor, [C] _ C, _ _ [D] D, _ _ [G] G, [D] D. _ _
[E] Then we have the same chord progression, but this time we're going to
bring in our strumming pattern.
So we have down, down, up, up, down, up on each chord.
Except for
the chords in the brackets, we're going to do down, [Em] down, up on each of those chords.
So here's what
this progression sounds like.
We have E minor, _ _ [C] _ C, _
_ _ [D] D, _ and [G] then G, _ [D] D. _ _ _ _
So _ [Em] this is going to happen four times
in a row, but on the second time we are going to have slashes on the chords in the brackets.
So
just look out for that little switch in the strumming pattern.
So now here is the whole chorus
with the words.
_ _ _ _ [C] _ _
_ _ _ _ [D] _ _ _ _
[G] _ _ [C#] _ _ [Em] _ _ _ [C] _
_ _ _ _ [D] _ _ _ _
[G] _ _ [C#] _ _ [Em] _ _ _ _
[C] _ _ _ _ [D] _ _ _ _
[G] _ _ [C#] _ _ [Em] _ _ _ _
[C] _ _ _ _ [D] _ _ _ _
[G] _ _ [D] _ _ [Em] _ _ _ _
[C] _ _ _ _ [E] _ _ _ _
[G] _ _ [D] _ _ [Em] _ _ _ _
[C] _ _ _ _ [D] _ _ _ _
[G] _ _ [D] _ _ _ _ _ _
[C#] So that's the chorus.
And now we're going to learn how to play the bridge.
We're going to
keep that strumming pattern in the bridge, and now we have a new chord progression.
So the [C] first part
is two times on C, _ _ _ _ _ then [Em] two times on E minor, _ _ _ _ _ _ and [C#] then in the second line we have two more [C] times on C,
_ _ _ _ _ and then [D] three times on D. _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ [C] So pretty straightforward.
Here it is now with the words. _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ [Em] _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ [C] _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ [D] _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ And then we would go into the [C] final fantastic chorus.
_ So [G] that's how you play I Knew You Were
Trouble by Taylor Swift.
