Anyway, [Eb] alright, [Eb]
that was a perfectly horrible introduction to what I'm about [E] to just do.
[Gm] This is a song that I [G] first heard in an Easter sunrise service in 1977.
I was born and raised in a Catholic church, [Bb] and unlike a lot of Protestant,
Protestant-y type guys, I'm not going to badmouth that for a second.
I was so grateful to have all that background.
I had my sort of [Db] teenage estrangement from all of that, [N] and then when I got serious about reading
Good News for Modern Man and the New Testament and realizing that most of [Eb] my beef with religion
had to do with [Bb] the folly of humans and less to do with the gospel of Jesus,
then I [E] found a sort of an entry point back in.
So, [Cm] in the spring of [Eb] 1977, [Gm]
I was attending a Calvary Chapel church,
and they were singing all of the worship [Ab] choruses and things that you would have expected from [Bb] that era.
But the guy who was leading worship that Sunday morning,
while we were all freezing in Jesus' name, sitting at the college football stadium,
[Bb] the worship leader had a Lutheran background, [Cm] and so out of his [Ab] Lutheran back pocket,
he pulled this song, [Bbm] [Eb] and I fell in love with it.
So I arranged it a little bit for a guitar and did something a little cheeky that I [G] might not even do now.
I cut and pasted halves of the [Bb] gazillion verses that I liked the best and sort of [Eb] welded it all together as this.
[C]
[Eb] [C]
[Eb] [Bb] [Eb]
[Cm] [Bb] [Eb]
[Bb]
[Eb] I know that [Abm] my [Eb]
[Bb] Redeemer lives
What [Ab] comfort [Eb] this sweet sentence [Bb] gives
He lives, [Eb] He lives, who [Cm] once was dead
He lives, [Eb] my ever
[Bb]-living [Gm] Head
[Ab] [Eb]
[Bb] [C]
[Ab] [Eb] [Abm]
[F] [Bb] This
[Eb] triumphant from [Bb] the grave
He [Ab] lives, [Eb]
eternally to [Bb] save
He [Eb] lives, my [Ab] enchanted
[Bb] prayer
He lives to keep [Eb] me [Cm] safely [Ab] there
[Bb]
[Cm] [Gm] [Eb]
[F] [Bb] [Eb]
Lives and [Abm] grants [Eb] me daily [Bb] bread
He [Ab] lives and I [Eb] shall conquer [Bb] death
[Eb] He lives and while He [Cm] lives I [Bb] will sing
He [Eb] lives, my [Abm] prophet, [Bb] Christ [Cm] and King
[Ab] [Eb]
[C] [Ab] [Eb]
[Ab] [F]
[Eb] Lives all glory [Ab]
to [A] His [E] name
[Ab]
He lives, my [B] Jesus, still [Bb] the same
Though the [Eb] sweet joy [Cm] this [Bb] sentence gives
I know that my Redeemer [Gm]
lives
[Ab] I [Eb] know that my [Bb] Redeemer [Eb]
lives
