Hello and welcome to this week's hymn.
This is one of my favorites.
I know I say it just about every week.
It happens to be true.
This is written by Judson W.
Van Deventner in 1896.
And we have it in his own words how it came to be.
The song was written while I was conducting a meeting in East Palisade, Ohio, in the home of George Sebring,
who went on to develop the town of Sebring, [B] Florida, if you've ever been there.
For [C#] some time [C] I had struggled between [A#] developing my talents in the field of art and going into [G#] full-time [N] evangelistic work.
At last the pivotal hour in my life came, and I surrendered all.
A new day was ushered into my life.
I became an evangelist and discovered down deep in my soul a talent hitherto unknown to me.
God had hidden a song in my heart and touched a tender chord.
He caused me to sing.
The music was written by a fellow named Winfield Whedon.
He [A] published a number of books on religious music.
[N] But this song must have been one of his favorites because the title is on his tombstone.
This is I Surrender All.
This is one of those songs you don't really want to sing unless you really mean it, because God might hold you to it.
But if you make this call, if you make this move, it's the smartest thing you've ever, ever done.
I surrender all.
