Today I'm gonna try to write a song using a song idea generator.
I found a song idea generator and the idea it has given me is
write a song about people you have fallen out of touch with.
I can kind of relate to this idea.
I've been out of high school for like three years, so there's a bunch of people I haven't talked to in a long time.
So let's run with this.
All right, here we go.
The dreaded blank page.
[G] [A]
[Em] Okay, I kind of have like the outline of the first [F] verse.
I just don't have the words yet.
So I know I want to do like what it used [Ab] to be like when we were growing up and we were close.
[G] [A] But it's got to somehow by the end of [Bb] the verse
talk about
moving away from each other.
[G] So.
We used to da da da da da da.
We used [A] to da da da da da [A] da.
We used to think that today was forever.
[G] We started growing up and getting [D] older.
Da da da da [A] da da da da da da.
So [A] I think I found the hook of the [Bb] song.
Um.
I want it to be more positive than [N] negative.
I'm not really into writing negative songs.
I just, you know, it's not my thing.
But what I want it to be is
pick up where we left off.
So yeah, you grew apart, but you can always come back to that.
That time, that moment when you guys were super close.
Just pick up where you left off because I feel like people say that all
the time.
So
keeping that in my mind for the chorus.
The verse is still very patchy.
We used to think today was forever meaning we think
the day was, we were never gonna get older.
We were never gonna grow up.
Those days are lost in a memory.
Those days are lost in a memory.
I have so many like melodies.
I don't know which one to use.
Or where to use them.
Yep.
This is what songwriting looks like.
Mostly just me losing my mind.
Also, I noticed my melodies always are [Ab] changing because I haven't found the right one yet.
So it's probably pretty [N] confusing for you guys, but we'll get there.
It'll all come together.
I promise.
By the end of it
it'll all be one
piece of work.
[G] These memories come rushing [D] back, reminding me of what we [A] had.
Nothing's lost.
I don't think that we could drift [B] apart and not come [G] back.
Into a chorus, [Gb] I think.
[G] Alright, it's now the next morning.
I got some good sleep and I'm ready [A] to go.
[Db] I've been working on it for maybe 20 minutes and [C] I think I got a verse and [Gb] a pre-chorus.
So now I need to work on the chorus.
So here's what I have so far.
[G] We used to ride around and talk for [D] hours.
Talk about the things [A] that matter.
We thought
today was forever.
[G] We started growing up and [D] getting older.
We moved apart.
I'm so [A] far from you.
We've gone our separate ways.
[G] But those memories come [D] rushing back, reminding me of what we [A] had.
Nothing's lost.
I don't think that we could drift apart and not come back.
[N] Into a chorus.
All right, so
I'm not really getting anywhere on the chorus.
But I think I want to go to the second verse,
figure out what to say there, and then come back to the chorus.
And that'll be the last thing.
Maybe a bridge.
It might be a bridge.
Not sure yet, but
we're getting there.
So I don't think I said too much about the memories that I'm referring to.
So I think the second verse should be all the things we used to [G] do.
We were younger then, things [D] are different now.
We were running wild, no worries [A] found.
Staying out every Friday night.
It was just you and, it was just you [Gb] and I.
This is so weird for me.
I usually have the chorus first.
So that was interesting trying to write it from the beginning [G] down.
So now I just need a chorus.
Would you drift [A] apart and not come back?
[G] [D] Let's pick up where we left [A] off.
Let's pick up where we left off.
[D] Let's pick up where we left [A] off.
Where we left off.
Where [G] we left off.
[Bb] All right, [F] well, there's the chorus.
I kept it really simple.
I feel like that's usually the way to go with choruses.
You want it to be singable and
easy to remember.
So we've got the chorus.
We've got two verses, a pre-chorus.
I think we've got a song.
[N] So I'm calling it where we left off.
Hope you guys enjoy it.
