[Eb] [Gb] What's up guys?
Groovy Guitar Dude here with the beginner guitar tool for Idol by
BTS.
[F] If this video helps you out hit that like and subscribe button and let me
know in the comments below what other songs by BTS that you want to learn on
guitar.
Guys the first thing you need to know to play Idol on guitar is that in
order to get rid of some bar chords and keep this lesson as beginner friendly as
possible we're gonna capo up to fourth fret and if you don't have a capo I'll
[A] link to get this one for free right up here.
So [F] guys we're gonna dive into some
chords a little bit later on in this song but we're actually gonna start with
this little picking part that's gonna match that kind of like trumpet horn
kind of sound in the very beginning that's the intro and that also plays in
the choruses.
I don't actually know what instrument that is it's some kind of
some kind of horn thing or they might be using [N] some kind of keys to emulate that
but that's what we're gonna be matching we're gonna play a guitar picking part
to match up with that.
That's gonna be the focus of this lesson.
And guys for
that picking part all of the notes that I'm gonna tell you all the frets that
I'm saying are not relative to the capo so for the picking part we're gonna
pretend like the capo is not there.
So we're gonna start here on sixth fret of
the G string and we're gonna [Db] pick that twice then we're gonna go [Ab] up to ninth
fret of the B then we're gonna go ninth fret on the G [Em] twice.
Then we're gonna
have a small pause and then ninth fret on the G once more and then we're gonna
[Eb] go to eighth fret on the G we're gonna pick that twice.
Small pause then we're
gonna pick that eighth fret on the G once more and then we're gonna do
eighth hammer-on to ninth [E] and eighth hammer-on to ninth once more.
And that's
that whole [C] picking pattern guys and like I said that plays in the very intro the
the outro and then all throughout the choruses as [A] well.
So I'm gonna play through that a couple times really slowly
so you can really see what I'm doing.
And I'll play through it a couple times full speed as well
so you can match it up with the speed of the song.
Slowly should look something [Gb] like this.
[E]
[Eb] [Db]
[Em] [Eb] [E]
And [Abm] guys, a couple times through the intro, outro
and chorus picking progression
should look about like this full speed.
[Eb]
[Dbm]
[Eb] Guys, from there [N] we're gonna need a couple of chords.
The first chord we need is gonna [Dbm] be A minor.
[Abm] The next chord we're gonna need is E minor.
And the last chord we need [A] to play is F.
And I'll have an alternate way to play that [N] F chord
for beginners as well as chord charts for the other chords
in the pinned comment below.
So guys, Idle actually does not adapt super well to chords
because it's kind of, there's not a whole lot of substance
to the chords.
It's actually really drum heavy besides that one little
kind of picking pattern that I just showed you.
Most of the song is actually kind of just hanging out
on drums and doesn't have a whole lot of instrumentally
going behind that.
But here's a few things that you guys can kind of play
around with and just experiment with if [F] you're wanting
to do like an acoustic cover of this song.
So for verse, actually we're just gonna have one chord.
It's gonna be A minor and we're just gonna hang out on that
for the entirety of the verses.
Now the strum pattern that I'm using, and again,
this is something that you guys wanna play around with
and see [A] what works for you.
But the one that I thought sounded pretty good
and matched up [Dbm] pretty well is down, down, up, up, down, up
for each chord.
So for A minor, you're basically just gonna repeat
that A minor with down, down, up, up, down, up
the whole entire way through the verses.
You [G] just kind of repeat it over and over and over again
for the verses.
Like I said, this isn't a great song for adapting it to chords.
Really the main thing that most of you probably wanted
to learn for this is actually that little picking part,
which is super fun to play.
But here's some, just like I said, this is some options
you play around with it.
If you're doing an acoustic cover, this will at least
give you a place to start.
So a couple times through that A minor with [C] that strum
pattern that you can be experimenting with on verse
should look about [Dbm] like this.
And guys, [Db] because we're using that picking pattern
through the choruses, the only other [F] thing we need to know
for this song chord wise is gonna be our pre-choruses.
For our pre [Abm]-choruses, our chord progression is gonna be
E minor, [A] F, [Dbm] A minor, and A minor once more.
And we're gonna stick with that same exact strum pattern,
that down, down, up, up, down, up for each one
of [F] those chords.
I believe we go through that progression twice
for the whole pre-chorus and then we go into the chorus,
which is just gonna be that picking part.
And that's it guys, that's all you need to know
to play chords for Idle.
And like I said, everything else, the intro,
any little instrumentals as well as the choruses
are all just gonna be that picking part
that we went over at the [E] beginning.
So guys, a couple times through that pre-chorus
chord progression with that strum pattern
[Abm] should look about like this.
[A] [Dbm]
[Abm] [A] [Dbm] And guys, that [Gb] is everything that you need to know
to play Idle on guitar.

Guys, Idle is a lot of fun to play.
Really particularly, like I said,
the focus of this guitar lesson
is on that little picking part.
I don't really actually know [Bb] what instrument that is.
It's probably some kind of keys type of thing
in the [F] actual song.
But it's really fun to play [Dm] that little picking part on guitar.
I love it, I've been jamming on it.
I'm kinda like hooked on playing it
where I just wanna [Bb] kinda keep jamming on it
over and over again,
because it's the same thing.
But you [F] also have some options to lay some chords
under this, like I said.
This isn't a really,
[Dm] this isn't necessarily a great chord song.
There's not a whole lot that you can do
chord wise with this song.
But if you wanna jam on it and stuff like that,
it's an absolutely cool one.
I would actually love to see like an acoustic cover
of this song, just because I think it would take
a lot of creativity to find a cool way to do that.
So if you make a cover of this song,
let me know about it in the comments [Bb] below
so that I can check it out,
because I'm curious to see it.
But anyways [Fm] guys, I had a lot of fun learning this song.
I hope you guys have a lot of fun learning it too.
And I hope you have a wonderful day.
And I'll [Bb] see y'all soon.
