International Guitar Night 2014, presents Mike Dawes chords
Start Jamming...
My name is Mike Dawes.
I play a style known as percussive fingerstyle guitar on a steel
string.
I have some family members that work closely with a French guitar player called
Pierre Ben-Susan.
So when I was growing up, I used to get guitar tab books and things
like that for my birthday and Christmas presents some years.
So I sort of got into players
like Michael Hedges and Preston Reed through that Pierre Ben-Susan connection.
And I guess
learning a lot of rock music at school growing up, the two styles kind of combined and you
have something that resembles, hopefully resembles what I'm doing now.
Thank you so much.
[Fm] So, [Dm] are you good?
Fantastic.
My name is Mike.
I'm from a little village in the south of
England.
[B] I'm going [D] to play you some of my songs.
This is the first song I wrote on a
steel string guitar.
It's called Boogie Shred.

My earliest sort of memory was watching the Blues Brothers, my parents VHS player, and
figuring out the little melodies for the horn parts on my mum's keyboard, you know, before
I could barely walk.
So I've always been making music.
I think the guitar is something that
I sort of fell into when I was 12.
I was never particularly specifically enthusiastic about
the guitar, just about making music.
But of course, once I got my guitar, I was completely
in love with it and I can't really imagine doing anything else.
You know, I've always
been making music and for as long as I can really remember, or at least the core part
of that in my life since I was 12, has been playing guitar, electric or acoustic.
So I
guess I have a really, really deep and long-lasting connection with the guitar and hopefully it'll
last for many, many more years to come.
