Alan White of Yes talks about Tony Kaye joining their big [G] 50th anniversary tour.
[F#] I'm John Bowden from Rock History Music.
It's a good [A] time to be a Yes fan.
They're celebrating their 50th anniversary.
We talked [G] to Alan White who's been with the band for 46 years, joined [D] on Yes Songs, their live LP.
And to celebrate, there's a special guest.
There's [G] a few on this tour,
but there's one guy that a lot of fans are really happy about, Tony Kaye.
With Tony coming back into the band, which, [Dm] I mean, man, the fans have [A] been
Yeah, well, he's kind of doing a cameo appearance at [C] the very, very end of the show,
[D] playing Yours Is No [A] Disgrace and Roundabout [C] and Starship Troopers.
[A] And, you know, it's a lot of fun having Tony back on [C] stage.
It's been quite a blast, really.
He [F#] played on a cruise with us [A]
at the beginning [D] of this series.
And then [A#] he came and played [G] a couple of times in London.
[C#] And then he's going to [A] do this whole tour.
But [C] he told [G] me, he said, well, you have [A] to watch me and [Em] make sure I can make it.
I said, well, of course [G] you can, Tony.
Come on.
[C] Yeah, [A] he's all right.
You've played these songs [D] so many times.
Is there [A] ever a point where you're thinking to [F#] yourself, oh, maybe I don't want to play [E] that one?
Or else, [G] is it a show must go on thing where you guys, yes, they want to hear these songs?
[A] Not really.
I mean, [D] yes, music is very [A] challenging to play anyway.
And it always [E] keeps your mind happy.
It's not like you just let it roll along and [G] think, I know this really well.
So, [A] yeah, you've got to think really hard and pay attention to what you're doing all [E] of the time.
What's your day usually look like?
If you're [G] not touring and you're at home, I think the fans would be interested.
What does your day look [D] like at home when you're just by yourself?
[E] When I'm not working?
[A] Yeah, when you're not working.
[C] Yeah, I've got a studio and I have [A] two [C] wonderful Jack Russells and my [E] wife.
And we live [G] in a very nice house.
[C] And, you know, we [B] just live normal life, going out to [F#] see our friends around the neighborhood [A] and [D] going to dinner.
And [E] I've got a small [A] studio that I do homeless toys.
What was the most challenging piece of drumming [G] that you ever did with Yes for [D] you personally?
Well, [A] numerous [Em] albums where I [Gm] think Chris Guire and myself.
[A] One of them was, of course, with Maya [C] playing when we came up with the rhythm and sound chaser and you get to do him and all those kind of pieces.
And you get a very complex rhythm section.
And, you know, [G] Tom has got some really great bass [C] and drum work.
