[F] My name is Nibi Nilsson from [N] Greenland.
Well, my name is not from Greenland, but I am from Greenland.
And we're here in South by Southwest with AU Review.
Well, welcome [C] to South by.
Thank [Eb] you.
Is it your first time here?
No, we've been here a [Dm] few times.
[Gb] So, you know, doing it a few times [G] in the past, that prepares you for the next time, I suppose.
You think [F] so.
All the time.
[Bb] You're like, this year, it's going to be, we [N] know it's going to
take an hour to get from place to place, but it still gets _ things, unforeseen things happen all
the time.
So.
It's crazy, isn't [B] it?
It's pretty crazy.
[Abm] But how are you finding it?
Are you enjoying it all the same?
Yeah, [Eb] absolutely.
It's a lot of fun.
_ [A] As long as you're prepared in your mind [Bb] that things can be
quite chaotic and [N] you're ready to handle it all, it's good. _ _
Fair enough.
Well, it's good to have you here.
And as you mentioned, you're from Greenland,
which I imagine is a point of conversation for _ _ most.
Yeah.
I don't imagine there's a [G] very big [B] music scene there.
Well, no.
A lot of people play music, but _ we're so few people.
So [Fm] it's not like there's a million
bands in there.
_ [F] _ So we're 55,000 [D] people all in all in the whole country.
So that's [B] kind of like,
I don't know, here in the States, that would be a neighborhood, I suppose.
_ There are more people than that at [N] this festival.
_ Many more people than that.
There are probably more bands than that at this festival.
Yes.
_ _ So _ _ how do you get out of that then?
Like, how do you go,
okay, I want to [B] be an artist that tours the world?
Because I imagine that can be,
[N] feel like a bit of an obstacle.
It is a little bit of an obstacle because [A] we're [Dm] an island and we're far away.
[A] So
_ even just getting tickets out of there and back [F] again, the prices are so crazy.
[N] It's really
expensive.
And already, if you're just a beginning artist and just starting to play music, it's not
like you're getting a lot of money.
So in general, it is pretty difficult to be a musician from
Greenland.
But I think the government is starting to see that they should help artists more.
And so
I'm feeling a little bit of change now.
[Bb] So that's good.
Well, you must [B] be, you know, waving the flag as [A] you come over here, because that's what it takes.
It takes artists [B] coming and making waves [Em] so that the government then turns around and goes, well,
if [Abm] she's doing it and he's doing it, [N] maybe more can as well.
Yeah, exactly.
So let's talk about your music.
And _ with South By comes some music to promote.
So,
you know, what are you promoting while you're here?
Well, actually, I've been playing the same album for quite a while.
[E] And right now,
[D] we're trying out all the new songs.
I'm almost done with [G] the new album, and I'm hoping to be
done [N] with it in the fall.
And so right now we're playing all the new songs with the band and
_ trying them out in front of people. _
So yeah, it's a lot of fun.
It's challenging because
some of the songs are a little bit difficult.
[G] But it's good.
It's a lot of [N] fun.
What makes them difficult?
Well, I think my way of writing songs is very songwriter type [Em] way.
So I'm not a traditional
trained musician.
[N] So I can make changes because the song dictates the instruments,
the lyrics and the melody dictates the instrument.
And so [Am] my guitars will change in [N] really odd times
which is very unconventional for musicians.
And that's why they can be kind of_
It'll be all
nice and easy.
And all of a sudden, there'll be like this little moment where you got to skip a
beat or something.
And they got to remember that.
_ [A] So that's the only thing that's [Eb] a little bit
difficult.
And you just got to learn it and play it by playing it a lot.
And it's something like South [G] by Southwest, you get the opportunity to play it a lot.
Exactly.
[C] How many shows are you doing?
[N] We're doing seven shows.
And _ _ yeah, so we started yesterday and today we'll_
We played one show.
[Eb] And today we will play three shows.
_ Wow.
So you're running around [N] like a crazy person.
Yes.
_ _ So what's the rest of the year holding for you?
_ _ [C] _ [G] What's the rest of the year holding for you?
[A] Oh, yeah, we're gonna be traveling a lot still [D] playing music everywhere.
One of the most
[A] exciting things, one of the new places that we're going this year, we're going to Japan twice.
[B] So that's very, very exciting.
[Am] And yeah, otherwise, we'll be_
First of all, [E] finishing the album,
[Am] we'll be recording [Eb] in a few studios [D] here in the States right after South by Southwest.
[G] We'll go to New [N] Orleans and _ Athens, Georgia and _ Nashville and a bunch of places to record
here and there.
It's gonna be exciting.
That'll be the next album.
Yeah.
Wow.
Well, we look forward to hearing that and [G] maybe one day we'll even get [Am] you down to Australia.
I would love to come to Australia.
Well, thank you so much for your time.
Well, thank you.
And enjoy South by Southwest.
I will.
And you too.
