Unbelievable.
[Dm] [Ab]
One of these days.
One of these days.
[Eb] So Frank has the microphone backstage.
[Ab] Yeah, [G] the original angel microphone.
Grab a mic.
[N] There's one right there.
That's like all taped up.
That's like a Roger Daltrey mug or something.
It's swinging.
It's swinging.
Yeah, that's for your, no, no, you have your [Bbm] mic.
Oh, it works.
[F] So Frank, thank you for [Gb] coming out.
Everybody's sticking around to see Frank do [Bb] his thing with Violet Tattoo.
Coming up in just a couple of minutes.
When we get in the angel reunion.
Let's get [F] right to it.
[Bb] Let's start it this [N] way.
Because people, you know, there was a lot of people asked us questions about Angel over the years.
And of course we talked about it on that [Eb] other show.
But the thing that a lot of [Bbm] people ask about is Greg [Bb] and what Greg's doing now.
And he kind of has an interesting story.
So maybe we could start there.
[Ab] Well, Greg is. Greg Shafran.
[Bbm] Yes, Greg Shafran.
Greg is a.
Greg is a.
Greg is a.
Greg is a.
Greg [F] is a.
Greg is a.
Greg is a.

[Bb] Greg is a.

[Bbm] Greg is a.
Greg is a.
Greg is a.
Greg is a.
Your ex was loves to do slot machine.
And you know how many slot machines there are?
[F] That's unbelievable.
He actually owns a casino right?
[Gb] Yeah.
[Bbm] He was a practice in Hardle from Lurksy.
Yeah.
Do you keep in touch with any of the guys?
Yes.
All the time.
[Bb] And you talk to Greg at all?
Yeah I've said anything.
Do you have an extra Bentley [N] flying around?
They [Ebm] never asked him about that are they?
That's [Bb] great that it's staying in touch though.
Yes.
[Eb] The [Gb] guy that was staying in touch, Fields, was just out [Ab] here about a [Bb] month ago.
Wow.
We both went on the band and stuff.
Barry I talk to all the time.
[G] And we just started with Greg's house maybe two or three [Bb] months ago.
Are those guys, other than Greg, are the other guys active?
As far as music?
Yeah, not really.
Not really.
I mean, you know, Punky still plays when he's, when he plays in his house.
Yeah, I mean, [F] he still, he has all his guitars, he still plays.
I said, why don't you come on?
He's [Bb] like, come on to Vegas.
I said, no, I'll come on here sometime.
Why do you think, you [A] know, Frank, I've always said that Angel [Bb] is a band that people either
loved or never heard of.
Never heard of.
I find that all the time.
How many people in here know [N] Angel?
Be honest.
I mean, I'm assuming the rest of you, how many people never heard of Angel?
A few.
[Db]
People get drunk and.
But you know, it's funny because.
I mean, [Bb] Angel [N] was on the, like the perception of Angel was maybe much.
Every magazine, it was like Angel [D] versus Kiss.
And I [Gb] don't know where it was.
In reality, it never [A] translated that way.
Why do you [Bb] think that was?
I don't know.
I think at the time when we first did our first two albums, it was a lot of.
That time was different.
A lot of AOR stuff and it was not so much a fixation on singles.
But you guys had Bonafide hits.
Yes, we did.
Especially on the first two albums.
Yeah, but they were a little bit [D] different.
And I think what happened was with Casablanca.
Casablanca was having a huge problem.
I mean, they really couldn't play Kiss on the radio [Bb] either.
Right.
But you know, disc jockeys wouldn't play Kiss.
Then because of Dark Summer, they didn't want to take Casablanca serious because of the [D] disco thing.
They don't really care.
Right.
[Bb] And then they had Kiss and they had us.
And we were both costume guys.
You guys were like [F] the anti-Kiss.
Like they were the dark side, you [D] guys were the light side.
Well, you know, people say that, but I don't know.
When we put our show together, [Bbm] I can't ever remember anyone saying,
I get a blitzkrieg black [Bb] set for a black record.
Right.
Because of Kiss.
It just happened to be that.
[Eb] But it's just, I mean, because you got, in my opinion, I always felt Angel had better songs.
[Bb] Even though I'm a Kiss fan since I'm nine, I always thought Angel had better songs than them.
So it's just, like Eddie said, people either knew [C] you guys or just didn't know you at all.
[Bbm] I go through this conversation with Richie Randall all the time.
From Stars.
Another [Bb] great band.
We talk all the time.
And Richie says, you know, it's amazing.
He said, you know, it's like Angel and Stars are like in that [Bbm] same pocket.
Yeah, for sure.
[Bb] Absolutely.
The bands that people loved and knew about or never really [F] heard of.
Yeah, if you wear a Star shirt, you'll be at a concert, you'll get like three people
that come and go, oh my God, you're wearing a Star shirt.
And everybody else will have no idea who it is.
I [Bb] wore a Star shirt on that metal show and I still get email when the show repeats,
where'd you get that Star shirt?
And [Eb] I'd call Richie Randall, I don't know, [Ab] he'd get it to me.
[Dm] Frank, I want to ask you this.
For you guys that don't know about [Eb] Angel and [Gb] what [A] they did in the 70s,
one of the things they were so [Db] iconic [Bb] and known for was their stage show,
[N] which is a huge production where they would materialize and go up into the sign
and come out of pods and all this crazy stuff.
Give [Bb] us the one, you [F] had to have had some incredible [G] [N] mishaps on that stage.
You had to miss some incredible spinal tap moments.
And of [F] course, you've seen spinal tap moments.
[Dm] Did that actually [G] happen to you guys where the pod didn't open?
Well, close to it.
It happened in Japan.
[Bb] Barry never came out of this [N] pod.
But he was scared.
[F]
Was there like a little hammer in there and said, in case of emergency, break the glass?
You told me he was [Bb] claustrophobic, he wouldn't get into the pod.
So when everyone [B] else was in the pod, [Abm] Barry the drummer would stand next to the pod.
[B] But you know, they announce, they go through this.
[Bbm] I took a lot of the beginning, the opening, [Bb] as you talked about everyone coming out of the pod,
announcing everyone, I took a lot of that stuff from Cahill Cabran.
From who?
[F] Cahill Cabran.
He's got a strip club in Jersey?
[D] Well, [Bb] anyway, they announced Barry and he just refused to come out.
And the spot's taped on [F] the towel right there.
And none of us knew what to do because, you know.
The voiceover keeps going and starts to go to the next guy.
And now Barry's still in [D] there.
Still in there.
And how did you get him out?
No, we didn't.
We [Bb] just pushed it back and it never came up again.
[N] Someone's got to come up with a propane thing.
We're still looking for a runaway.
Alright, well listen man, thank you so much for coming out.
Frank D'Amino, everybody.
He's the voice.
Roy Corman.
He's the man I can still say his name in.
We'll hear from him in just a few minutes, the final tattoo.
And for the guy who asked the question about who we sort of get giddy about on that metal show.
For me, that guy right there.
70s, like I said, 70s.
That's where it was at for most of us.
Alright, time for the
