Another cool thing about compression is, you know, let's say you're using a little overdrive.
And I'm using a BP plus here, not with a whole lot of drive on it, just with a little bit,
just a [C] little [F] [D] bit [C] of drive.
[Dm] [C] [Bb] [A]
[E] [D] [C] [Dm]
[F] [Em] [A] [Fm]
[D] [Dm] [C] [G] [Am]
[G] [Dm] [E] Just a tiny bit of drive on there.
Okay, and I like, and it's not necessary all the time, because, you know, especially if
you're doing like [C] kind of a rhythm, [D] [C]
[D] [C] [D] [C]
[Dm] you know, you may not want [N] any compression on there,
because, you know, you hear the peaks, you hear, you know, all the chunk, and, you know,
you hear that percussive, well not even percussive, you hear the [C] separation.
So,
[G] [D] [C] [D]
[C] [D] [C]
[D] [G] you know, for something like that.
But let's say it's kind of a bluesy tone, let's say it's a little bluesier.
Now this is personal preference, but I like to add a little compression, just because
of what it does to the sound.
[D]
[G] [C] [Am] [Dm]
[Am] [F] [G]
[C] [D] [Em] Here it is without it.
[F]
[Dm] [G] [C] I'll turn it back on.
[N] [Dm] [G] [F]
[C] [F] [D] [Bb] [Am]
[Dm] [C] [Dm] [G]
[F] [D]
And [Gm] [Ab] [G] that's a personal preference thing, but you may say, well, you know, I kind of like
it with a little less compression.
Let's go for that blend knob there.
Let's pull the amount of compression back.
We'll leave it on, but just dial it back a little.
[C]
[Dm] [Am] [G] [C]
[E] [Am] [Dm] [F]
[A] [C]
[F] [E] [F]
[Gm] [C] [D]
[Em] You know, it's personal preference.
But that's the cool thing about the SP.
What I don't want people to do is run out and spend a lot of money on a bunch of things.
Oh, and one of the things I really, really forgot.
Two very, very important things about the SP are it's 100% analog, so it's not going
to like mess up your tone with a bunch of X's and O's, and it's true hardwire bypass.
So when it's out, it's out.
When it's in, it's in.
Very, very important.
You want to look for effects that are true hardwire bypass because they don't mess up
your tone like ones that are in all the time.
[A]
[Em]
[Em] [A] [D] [A]
A very cool thing you can do with compression is you set it really, really high.
You can see I have it all the way up.
The blend knob is all the way to the right, and the compression is on the highest setting.
And I have some delay in.
I'm going to turn a little bit of delay up just so you can hear it a little bit.
Over here using the Line 6 M9, and I have delay with modulation.
Turn the mix up a little bit.
And I'm using a visual volume pedal down here.
You can see, from visual sound.
[Gbm] And this is kind of a cool effect, you know, like just doing some bends and stuff with
the delay, but a lot of compression, so it has a pedal steel characteristic.
It's not a pedal steel, but it kind of has that characteristic.
[G] [D]
[A]
[Em] [C] [G] [Em] [G]
[Dm] [A]
[Em] [Gbm] [Em] [Bm] [A]
[G] [D]
[Dm] [A]
A very cool thing you can do with the SP compressor, a little delay and a little imagination.
