_ _ _ _ _ First off, what brings you out to Oscar week?
Go ahead.
Go ahead, Bri.
Bri doesn't like answering questions.
I don't.
He's just going to sit here and look at it.
You're the one that does all the interviews, Terrell. _ _ _ _
I mean, it's fun.
It's _ _ exciting.
Get to see everybody.
Get to go to the parties. _
Now, Terrell, does it ever bring up any problems for you?
I mean, you're a pretty well-known guy.
You know, your family's a little bit popular.
Is it ever like, oh my goodness, just leave me alone?
No, no.
No, not at all.
I'm usually inside doing music, so I like getting out and seeing people, you know, and getting in the mix.
But I'm usually at home a lot, so.
Which isn't so bad.
It's kind of rare for me to be out.
It's very rare for you to be out.
Are you enjoying this?
I enjoy it.
I like to get out.
I get them out once in a while.
Now, _ _ your name in the music industry is huge.
Everybody knows who you are.
Everybody knows who your family is.
What's that like? _ _
_ I don't _ know.
I just obviously, I grew into it, so it was there.
It's always been there for me.
It's nice.
You know, a lot of people do know the family, and they have stories of growing up and listening to the music.
And, you know, I get to _ speak with them, and they share their stories.
And it's nice to hear the impact that my uncles and my aunts have had on the world and on people.
Now, for people that might not know, this is Tito Jackson's son.
_ _ I mean, true legends. _ _ _ _
Stepping into their shoes wasn't a difficult thing for you to do, though.
_ I think it just came natural for us.
We wanted to be just like our uncles, so I think all kids look up to their parents.
And for us, we just, you know, instead of playing, pretending to be superheroes,
a lot of the times we were pretending to be our uncles.
And it just started from that point, you know?
And that involved dancing with brooms and doing some good music in the basement?
We used brooms, mops and brooms, and anything to simulate and emulate guitars and instruments.
And then eventually our father got us our own, and that's how it all started.
And you guys formed 3T, right?
Yes, yes, 3T.
That's the group.
And it's a popular one.
It's gotten you out there.
You've been in the industry for, well, I guess we can all say since the day you were born, basically.
Pretty much, yeah.
So what's next for you?
What do you have going on?
A few things.
Still working with my brothers, working on music and albums, and hopefully touring soon.
And then I'm working on a couple side things. _
_ I'm a father of two, so I've got my hands full.
I'm coaching their baseball.
So I'm busy, but I'm loving it.
I'm enjoying every day.
And how do you do the balance of the two?
The family life and the music life?
That's the challenge.
How do I deal with that, Brie?
That's where I come in, and that's where I handle the family.
You're his rock, right?
I'm the rock. _
That's good.
Everyone needs one of those.
_ It's an alright job, right?
Just a little.
She helps a little bit.
If you call her name, she's there for you.
It's definitely hard balancing, because music takes a long time.
I don't know if people realize and recognize that, but I get lost in it.
_ Like I said, I'm happy I'm here, because normally I'd be in the studio, working.
And when you've sold over three million records, _ _ _ it's got to take up a little bit of time.
In _ order to be in the music industry, I tell people you have to love it.
Because if you're in it, you'll see that it takes a lot of work.
If you don't love it, you're not going to survive.
You won't.
You just won't.
_ Obviously, your uncles are a big influence.
But who else influences your music? _ _
I love all kinds of music.
Anywhere from the Beatles to Marvin Gaye, Phil Collins, all the Motown stuff.
I love it all.
Earth, Wind & Fire.
Bread?
Bread?
Yeah.
How did you know that?
I just do, you know.
I love bread.
The music group.
_ And maybe the other stuff.
A lot of people don't know bread.
A lot of people don't know.
That's crazy.
They're great.
David Gates.
_ _ I think you introduced me to them.
Bread is so great.
Underrated.
We're completely different.
_ What type of music do you listen to?
R&B, hip-hop.
Old school.
She's on that side of it.
Does that ever come into it?
I listen to it all. _
But I'm trying to expand her knowledge and appreciation for music.
Do you think you'd ever go into the hip-hop side of things and try it out?
Yeah, a little bit.
But I think hip-hop is all about being true and being from the streets.
_ _ That's not you.
Come on.
Everybody knows I'm not from the streets.
I can make a hip-hop beat, but I'll never rap or anything.
Because people know where I'm from.
And that's fine.
But that doesn't mean I don't have to appreciate it and like it
and enjoy it like everyone else.
_ If I ever say I'm from the streets or from the hood, you know I'm lying, right?
I guess so.
It's not going to fly.
Could I put you on the spot a little bit right now?
Would you give us a little _ note?
Maybe a lyric?
Don't have a pen and pencil and pad.
That's the note you took, though.
_ _ She's doing all the singing today.
_ Have you been singing today?
I don't think I will sing in front of him, too.
I'll do it next time.
Next time.
Okay.
Promise. _
Next time, like next year? Next time.
Next time.
I'll give you a note.
I believe it.
Thank you, Brie.
That's very nice.
Very similar to his uncles.
_ _ You do.
That's nice.
You guys are awesome. _
I tell you that sometimes.
Sometimes.
See, sometimes.
I have one more question I try to ask each of my guests.
I'm not sure.
You won't be able to answer it today, but you will.
[Ab] I try to ask each of my guests about their socks.
I believe socks tell a lot about a person.
Okay.
Will you show me yours?
Yeah, see, _ I _ _ like to have fun with socks, too.
He does.
Those are awesome.
And I actually, they're called funky socks.
I was just going to say I knew they had to be funky.
Really?
And that wasn't the brand.
Don't get my foot yet, but here it is.
Funky socks.
Oh, my goodness. _
Those are the coolest.
You know, I put these on and I was like, you know what, maybe I should change my socks.
No, never.
And I was like, why?
Yeah, you'd be you.
Yeah.
Kept it funky today, so I got the funky socks on.
And it totally tells who you are.
Yeah, I like to have fun, you know?
I don't wear socks.
You don't ever wear socks?
I do not like socks.
Is that because they restrict you and you like to be free? _
That's a good point.
Yeah, it's restricting.
Maybe it was.
See, it says something about you.
It does.
Thank you so much for your time, guys.
Thank you.
You're awesome.
Thank you.
Thank you. _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
