Hey, this is Max from Whitney you're watching Ambie.
This is Julian too.
We're both here.
Hello.
[E]
[A] Hey everyone, it's Alicia from Ambie and I'm so excited to [B] be joined by Whitney today.
Hello.
Sup.
Yo.
How are you both doing?
Good.
Yeah, yeah.
We just [C] ate some really good sushi across the street from the venue.
So you're full, you're ready to go?
Really full.
Yeah.
Too full [D] actually.
I just want to say welcome to Toronto.
This gig is [Db] part of your [A] pretty much relentless touring that you've done throughout the year.
Sold out show after sold out show, it has sold out tonight as well.
How [B] are you enjoying the gigs?
They're really good.
We did Montreal last night and I've never had [N] like that, I guess, like wild of a crowd in that city.
I kind of thought that city was like more arms crossed or whatever, but it was awesome.
Did you guys try poutine [Eb] while you were there?
No.
Ah, no [Bb] plans to?
We can't like, we can't eat that heavy of food anymore.
Yeah.
Like really got to keep it.
It's the one concession we've made on from touring for so long is we eat sushi pretty much every [Db] day.
It's light enough where you can kind of jump around and do stuff on stage, I guess.
Yeah, yeah.
Exactly.
Even if you're full, you're not full again in like a half an hour.
[Bb] So on the music front, I have to say congrats on the release of Light Upon The Lake.
Now that's officially out with the full year that you guys put into creating this album.
How's it feel to have it out there?
[G] Fantastic.
Yeah.
It's like allowed us to travel and, you know, work really, really, really hard behind it.
But yeah, we're happy.
[Db] I know the album, a lot of it was created in your apartment in Chicago.
So to take us [Bb] behind the scenes, just into the writing sessions, what's the place look like?
What's the vibe of this place?
[E] The place where we started writing it was like a kind of just like we had our front door that worked.
So our friends would just kind of like walk in and out at any moment.
And we're there for a lot of like, just like be around while we were writing.
And then we completely destroyed [D] that place after like a year and a half and had to move.
Yeah, it was weird.
It was like, if we hadn't had a party in a couple of days, like the place looks so beautiful.
It was like one of my favorite apartments I think I've ever lived in.
But like, it was like night and day.
If we had just thrown a party the night before, it was like disgusting.
[E] I was going to ask when you say [Am] destroyed was because of all the parties, but I guess it was.
Yeah, yeah.
Oh, yeah.
The open door policy kind of like gave way to people coming over every single night.
But it was really good.
They're all good people.
So [Eb] it was a lot of fun.
For me, my favorite part of the record has to be the chilled laid back 70s vibe.
So that kind of continued throughout it.
[Eb] What were you listening to when putting the album together?
We discovered this dude named Jim Ford, like halfway through writing the record.
[A] And he obviously had a bit [Gb] of an influence.
He kind of allowed us to continue down the road that we [N] were on.
But I think we are kind of a duo that doesn't necessarily want to listen to too much music when we're creating.
We actually kind of find music and we're like, man, this sounds like kind of what we're making right now.
It kind of goes the opposite way.
It's really [D] cool.
Yeah.
I dig how on your Twitter you guys are super open with everybody.
You share your stories, whether it's in all caps or lower caps.
Very good technique there as well.
I feel like I'm screaming at everyone.
You think you might just start doing the initials at the end if you feel like that or just keep to the lowercase uppercase?
I'll [N] stick with it.
It's a good formula.
It's clearly working.
I feel like with you guys, you must have a crazy DM or inbox.
Is that true?
They get pretty crazy.
Yeah.
Not so much on Twitter, actually.
Instagram DMs are like
There's a lot of them.
There's like 60 unread DMs if you're out there and we haven't responded to your DM.
I'm sorry.
[D] A lot of it is just people reaching out, seeing how much [Bb] they dig the music.
Some of them get a little bit weird.
[F] A lot of them really are just massively supportive, I guess.
Like, your show was amazing.
Your show changed my life.
[Gb]
Yeah, I don't know.
I'm trying to think of a really weird one.
Well, it's this weird one where if you don't respond, they [Fm] just keep on sending [E] you question marks every few
[G] It starts with the one question mark, then the two, and it keeps going.
[B] There's selfies and stuff that are pretty weird, but we haven't gotten any [N] naked ones.
We had a good one.
There was a 50-year-old dude that took a selfie with the record.
He was like,
Bought your record today.
It's good.
No, I was like, nah, that's it.
Do you think the lack of naked selfies is because you guys haven't been posting as many of the naked photographs?
I don't know.
I'm glad that there aren't naked selfies.
I would feel really weird opening those up.
But yeah, probably.
Maybe we'll take more naked photos and see what happens.
On Elton John's radio show, I saw that he actually did a little shout out to you both, saying he's crushing on these two right here.
So when you heard that, what was running through your mind?
It was shocking.
I was drunk, and then I got to like
I saw the
whatever.
I heard it when I was drunk, and then I woke up and [D] totally forgot that it had happened.
So I got to experience that feeling of elation twice.
[C] As much as we've been doing well [N] in the room and stuff like that, that was the biggest validation to my music career, to my parents.
Oh yeah, my parents are so
through the roof about that.
I want to do a little quickfire round with the two of you, so whatever comes to mind.
Alright.
Alright, ready?
So what's a movie you can watch over and over?
Love Actually.
The Patriot.
Who's the coolest celebrity or band you've [Bb] met?
Sum 41.
Oh yeah, that's [Cm] true.
That's cool.
I got to interview Derek a couple weeks back.
That's awesome.
I hadn't really thought about them since I was in high school, and then he was playing a festival and he was walking around and I was like, whoa.
Snoop Dogg for me.
Who was your [Am] favorite artist when you were a teenager?
[Bb] Sam Cooke.
Jack White.
Where would you love to perform that you've yet to?
[B] [N] Australia.
Japan.
Nice.
And just to wrap everything up today, is there anything you want to say to all of the Whitney fans out there who will be viewing the interview?
[B] I love this moment so [G] much.
Do both.
Do one, do both.
Do one, do [N] both.
I just want to say thanks for chatting with us today, guys.
We appreciate it.
Thanks for having us.
It's my pleasure.
