The Irish Descendants!
[N]
Great, great.
Thank you very much.
Wonderful.
Thank you.
Wonderful.
Folks, this is Con O'Brien from the Irish Descendants.
Thank you very much, Con, that was great.
Now, you read about most bands, they started out together, they met somewhere,
but some of the fellas came from different professions here.
What were they doing?
Well, originally when we started playing, I guess we were all working in,
living around Newfoundland, working in the fishing industry,
so some of us were fishermen, some of us were involved in fish plant working,
that sort of thing.
So then you fellas overfished and decided to become musicians.
Well, you know, in Newfoundland, there's
Yeah, we overfished, but there's
In Newfoundland, there's no trees there anymore,
and there's very little minerals left, and of course we caught all the fish,
so we've got all the work done down there,
we've come up here to finish it off for you guys.
Very good.
Very good.
Now, what part of Newfoundland are you fellas from?
Mostly from the east coast around St.
John's, just outside of St.
John's.
I grew up, a couple of the band members are from the city,
and the rest of us grew up in little small outports,
two from a place called Bay Bulls,
and Larry, the bass player, is from Greats Cove in Trinity Bay.
So we live within a few miles of each other.
Now all this success you're having right across the country, it must be thrilling for you.
Oh, it's fantastic.
We're having a ball.
Not getting jaded over the gold albums, the Junos?
No, no, just the money hasn't come in yet.
I forget they forgot to send us the money.
Well, when you say Junos and gold albums, people know you're not rich here.
No, there's our tour bus right there.
Good.
Well, I want to thank you for coming.
You guys are playing Tuesday, tomorrow night in Montreal, Wednesday in Ottawa,
and Thursday you're at the Ford Center here in Toronto.
That's right.
Well, I wish you luck.
Thank you for meeting me here.
Join us tomorrow night, ladies and gentlemen,
when our guests will include Air Force star Lou Bagoie,
director Hampton Fancher,
and musical guest Tara McLean.
Please welcome the Irish Descendants.
