[E] What's up guys?
So today we're going to look at Weezer, [F#m] Island in the Sun.
Definitely [Fm] need to get more Weezer in my library and this is [N] definitely a must to know.
It's a lot of fun to play, hopefully should be easy [B] to catch on to, [N] and yeah, you'll be
ready to go.
[D#] So we're in standard tuning, so we're all good to go there.
I'll have tab pop-ups, I'll have the entire thing tabbed out, just go in the description,
follow the link there, bring you to [Fm] WordDoc, have the whole [F] thing tabbed out in its order.
And also if you don't know how to read tabs, [N] just go in the description and there's links
in there for how to read tabs and how to do a technique I might do that you don't quite
get or anything like that.
So hopefully everything you need is there and we'll [Em] get started with the song.
[Am] [D]
[G] [Am] [D]
[G] Okay guys, [N] so here's the intro and this little riff I'm about to show you gets played throughout
the song time and time and again.
So it's pretty much just four chords, E minor, A minor, D and G, and we're just playing three
notes out of the entire chord.
So I'll show you it, slow it down, have the tabs on the screen and just follow along.
So here we go.
[Em]
[Am] [D] [G]
[Em] [Am] [D] [G]
[Em] [Am] [D]
[G] [Em] [Am]
[D] [Em]
[A] [D] [G] [Em]
[A] [G] [Em]
[A] [G]
[A] [D] [G]
[N] Okay guys, so here's the verse and it's those same four chords that was in the intro but
this time we're playing the entire chord rather than just a chopped down version of it.
So just a quick note, if you want you can just do regular power chords for these four spots.
[A] [D] [G]
In the tabs I [E] showed the entire, [A] the full chord, so you can pick and choose however
you want to play it, but just to [Em] kind of get that E [A] minor, A minor, [D]
D, [G] G, just to kind
of get the full [Em] chords.
I just added a couple extra notes but [B] you can pick and choose which way you want to do it.
In the demo you saw I did the full chords so I'll just slow it down for you and you
can follow along.
[E] So here we go.
[Em] [Am] [D]
[G] [Em] [A]
[D] [G] [Em]
[G] [E]
[D] [G]
[Em] [D]
[Am] [D] [Gm]
[Em] [D]
[Am] [D] [Gm]
Okay [C#m] guys, so here's this little part after they [D#] do the verse for a couple measures.
[B] There's kind of a second guitar that's doing this [Em] little
[D] [G]
[A] [D] [G]
While that part's going on in the [F] verse.
[B] So this seems [A] kind of optional I guess, you [G#] can just kind of keep playing just that regular
verse progression if you wanted.
[N] I wasn't 100% sure about this little part.
It sounded pretty right to me but I'm by no means an expert so I'll just show it to you.
It sounded pretty close if not exact.
I don't [F] know.
It sounds pretty close to me on the album so [D#] I'll just show it to you real [E] quick, just
slow it down and you can take it or leave it.
So [Em] here we go.
[A] [D]
[Gm] [Em] [Am]
[D] [G] [Em]
[A] [D]
[G] [G]
[D] [G]
[C] [A]
[D]
Okay guys, so now for the chorus.
Pretty easy, basic, just simple power chords here.
So I'll just slow it down, run through it and we can go from there.
[E] So here we go.
[D] And
[G] [D]
[G] [C]
[A] [D]
just a little [Em] context after that.
It [Am] kind
[D] [G] of went back into that after the chorus ends.
[B]
[B] [G] [A]
[D] [Em]
[A] [F#]
[G] Okay guys, so the last part to show you is the solo and you'll know all the parts in the song.
It's really [F] easy, it's a lot of fun.
You can do a lot of trills or you can do a lot of [E] vibrato, kind of whatever.
You can play around with it a little bit, it's pretty fun.
But [C#] I'll show you the solo and just slow it down for you and you can go from [E] there.
So here we go.
[B] [Em]
[A] [F#] [G]
[D]
[B] [Em]
[F#m] [F#] [G]
Okay guys, [N] so there's the song.
I showed you all the parts you need.
The verse, intro, solo, everything you need to know to play the song.
So aside from that little [Em] [A] part there, everything should be [F#] pretty spot on.
I just wasn't 100% sure about that.
It [G] sounded good to me but in either case you [A#] can just forego it and just [Em] [A] do that [N] and replace.
So either way, whatever you want to do, go for it.
But you should be all set to play the song.
So with that all said, I guess I'll just see you [Em] guys in the next lesson.
