with LVs and um
I want this one signed.
Oh, sign it for her.
Thank you.
I got a sharpie in the [N] old
[C#]
Don't make me laugh on that one.
I love vinyl.
I never
it never [G#m] left me in my world.
[C#]
Um
Um
So it's always a real, real treat to see it and I'm more than happy to sign it.
Even [E] though when I do I feel like I'm kind of ruining it somehow.
It's weird.
[C#] But anyway
Oh, [E] a little funny story about this song.
[C#] So for those of you who are new with Richard Marx,
maybe some of you came and saw those shows that [G] where I was [C#] playing with him which was very [G#] fun.
Absolute pleasure.
I mean I grew [G]
up, you know, listening to his music and um
[N] And for me it was just like, excuse me, one of those dream session guitar player gigs.
And you know, after all, as a young kid growing up playing guitar that was what I really wanted
to do.
I never really wanted to be a singer in a [C#] band.
I just thought if I sang a little bit
[B] I'd get the gig playing guitar for someone over the other guy [C#] who couldn't sing.
And when the gig and the songs [G] came up, you know, to be the lead singer, I just said yes
because I would have done anything to play in another band with Virgil.
[C#] So that's how that
kind of unfolded.
Anyway, I digress.
So um, Richard [G#] Marx.
[C] So we're rehearsing, we're rehearsing the
[D] band and we're waiting for Richard to arrive.
So we're just playing through the songs and
he walks in [G#] to the rehearsal room and [N] he's singing this next song that I'm about to play for him.
[Gm] And I'm like, what?
[B]
[G#] [G]
What?
Yes.
[N] Anyway, I was just like, how do you even know this song?
[C#] Like, hey man, that song was on our own rotation when it came out of [G#] my house.
[C#] Anyway, I'd forgotten that he and Phil had [D] written some songs for Farnham.
[F#] And during that time we [D#] were making our favourite record.
[C#] So of course, Phil had
laid our record on Richard and Richard really liked it.
[C] You know, he's [D#m] a huge Farnham [C#] fan.
And as much as I was very uncomfortable with all those [G] comparisons between myself and John,
[N] for the most part it was always just because he's so good.
And no one wants to be compared to God.
Like, [C#] it's just, because, [G#] [C#] you know.
[B] No thanks.
[A#] [G#] Yes, he's [F#] incredible.
Like, [C#] let's leave that over there with him.
Let's leave incredible over there, you know.
[B] It was always a huge compliment.
Don't get me wrong.
[C#]
It was just a massive pressure that I put on myself being from Bedford.
But it was [N] a huge honour to have him walk in the room and be singing this song.
And as part of this show,
he used to, [B] when he would introduce me, he'd get me to sing a little chorus of this.
And we'd [N] sing it together.
And, [G] you know, I don't care if it's fashionable to say you're grateful.
How lucky am I?
[C#]
It was great.
Then we got to sing a chorus of one of my songs.
And he was like, how good is that?
[A#m]
And he sang the high [C#] harmony.
It wasn't ever there.
He just made it up.
This night, this place
Trembled my hands
[A#m] Headlights [F#] on the street
[C#]
So much love, a coffin dress
A river in your hand
[F#]
Walnuts on the pitchfork
It's a sin
But I lost direction
A heart in the rain
Take me back to [G#] the start
[C#]
[A#m]
[C#] Lead me to water
Hold my thought
[Fm]
[C#]
Lead me [F] to water
[C#]
Lead me to water
I want to stroll a while
A lot of tension in the air
[A#m] Smiles turn [C#] to arms
Leave me alone
A little bit of sweetness
In my face
Don't drive me back to the place
Hold my thought
[A#m] Lead
[C#] me to water
[A#m]
Lead [C#] me to [A#] water
[C#]
Lead me to water To walk
[B]
Come in the sun
Take a [C#] chance
I won't lose again
[E] How [B] much longer must I wait
To [A#m]
touch [A#] you, my [C#] love?
I [D#] want to [A#] hold you, my [C#]
love
[G#] They want it so
But [G#m] they won't let you [B]
down
[C#]
Long hair above the steel spine
Age has passed you by
[A#m] Yes, you [F#] understand
[C#] Stare in the eye
Feel the empty fire in the soul Watch me
[G#]
[C#] [E]
[B]
[F#]
[G#] [F] [G]
[C#]
Only you
I [A#m] was thinking of
[C#]
Lead me [D#] to [C#] water
Hold my thought
Hold my thoughts
It's not enough Look [A#m] afar
I [C#] need it
[F] Lead me to water
[C#] [A#] Lead me to water
[C#]
[A#m] [C#]
Lead me [G#] to [C#] water
[F#m] [C#]
[D#]
[N]
Lead me to water
Lead me to water
