Start Jamming...
Welcome back to this very special part of the show.
I'm David Beckham, Peter Kay, Dave-Judy Dench and Dame Edna Everidge.
The first of my next guests was a young man we championed at the very beginning of his career.
Now he's a star with an international reputation.
Ladies and gentlemen, welcome please, Jamie Cullum.
So, first and final appearance on the Mark Isson show.
I can't believe it.
I know.
Yeah.
Knockin' on.
Yeah.
Working with Clint Eastwood.
Yeah, I've just done
Clint's been writing these movie scores for everyone apart from just his own movie.
So, he got me to sing a song on a movie called Grace Is Gone that he's just written the score for.
And you've been touring America and all over the place.
Do you know what?
There's not
I don't think there's a country we haven't toured actually.
Last year was insane.
So, we're taking a bit of a break and I'm making a new album at the moment.
Alright.
So, when's that out?
Should be out next year.
That's the plan.
Alright.
And what
just with a small group or a big band or what?
I don't know.
I think I've always been quite cautious about what I put on my records before.
So, this time now that they
I think they'll pay for more things.
They're gonna have everything on it.
They said when you started, I mean the critics of course, that you're crazy choosing this kind of music.
A lot of the great American songbook that kind of cross-fertilizing pop music into that genre.
But I mean, it's worked, hasn't it?
So, there is still hope out there for old people like myself who sort of think that this kind of music is worth preserving.
I've never seen it as a preservation kind of thing.
It's just music that I like to play.
I know.
And it's as much as I like playing all types of other music.
I just like to bring it together.
It was never a big mission statement.
It's just something I think sounds cool.
Well, it's me who had the mission that you'll be the disciple of it.
Right.
Okay, so what are you gonna do with us tonight then?
Well, I'm trying to think of something appropriate for you.
So, we're gonna do an old standard call.
Please don't talk about me when I'm gone.
Jamie Cullum.
