Hi, Sean Persinger here.
I'm the author of the 50 Greatest Guitar Books.
Today I'm going to show you how to do some interesting, unusual things with pedals.
I'm going to use the Earthquaker Hoof Reaper and the Earthquaker Ghost Echo.
Here is the Hoof Reaper.
The Hoof Reaper is really three pedals in one.
It's a modern FUD.
The Earthquaker Ghost Echo is a classic.
[G]
[Ab] It's [E] also a classic.
[A]
[E] [G] [E]
[Bb] Now the one other thing that this pedal does is it has an octave [Ab] pedal built into it.
[D]
[E]
[D] [G]
That's kind of hard to beat.
It's really beautiful.
It's really hard to find something that can give you that wide range of tones out of just one little pedal.
Now that's what it's traditionally made for.
But I found that if you take the octave pedal, [Bb] which you're usually supposed to use on your [B] neck, for [Gb]
[Db] me,
but if you took that, added a little bit of Ghost Echo, another beautiful [Eb] reverb pedal from Earthquaker,
you could get these great Asian sounds.
[Bb] [Em] [Bb]
[A] [F] [Dm]
[A]
By the way, that scale I was using, that's the Japanese pentatonic scale.
[Bb]
This, by the way, is really just F major with two notes taken out, [A] emphasizing the A.
If you go to [C] the 50 Greatest Guitar Books, you'll find in the blog there's a handout with that scale tabbed out for you.
[E] The other thing I found that was really cool for this tone is that you could do a faux sitar sound, a la Metallica's Wherever I May Roam.
[Em] [E]
[N] So my hat's off to Earthquaker Devices for making such unusual and quirky pedals.
They do a multitude of different things, so I highly recommend checking out what they're working on.
They have a lot of great different pedals to choose from, so give them a look.
