[D]
there's a lot of songs about being country and driving tractors and
Yeah, just horrible horrible stuff, and there's not just any just good country songs anymore
[G] So I wrote this this is my little country music protest tune.
It's a title [D] track to the new record
[Bm] [C#m]
[D]
[Bm] [D] Will the singer about Jesus the singer about Jones and a [G] single American [D] pride
But they're all too damn clean the polish like [Em] stones
And he won't sing about [A] cheating or lies
[E] Well, [D] I remember the days when the singers just sang [G] left it all in the stories [D] they tell
But [G] these days we're in [D] a I'm country heaven [A] and death
femme [D] country hell
[B] [C#] [D] Well, I miss the days when the women were ugly [G] and the men were all
40 [D] years old
Cause you had to say something for people
Listen, [E] but now they just do it [A] there
So [B] [A] oh [D] well, it's all about
Idols pretty blonde hair [G] and how many trucks you [D] can sell?
[G] out here in [D] a I'm
Country heaven [A] and death femme [D] country hell
[G] Well out on these back [D] roads only real truth that I know
[A] Don't cross a [D] radio band
[G] It cuts through static [D] like a chill in the air
[E] It fades out then it comes [A] back again
[E] [D] Well, I don't mean to sound jaded cuz I know there are plenty of [G] young singers who aren't up [D] for sale
[G] But they're all stuck in a [D] I'm country heaven [A] and death femme [D] country hell
[E]
[D#] [E] this first was written on a true story because I had a a
Good friend of mine who got signed to a record deal big major label deal
Major label people who are supposed to be experts on country music
So right after he got signed they sent one of their executives down to check out the show
Down here in Texas.
He's from right here in Austin
They sent one of their executives down to see what was going on down here
He was doing pretty well and after the show we were all hanging out.
We're doing what we do at three o'clock in the morning We're playing
country songs on backstage
And I just happen to be
Back there watching all this happen and what happened was this record guy right in the middle of it turns to my friend
And he goes hey man play me something new something you're working on
so my friend starts strumming just like I'm doing right now and
three-four time waltz time
the way all those Merle Haggard and George Jones songs and
The way they were all done and [C#] this record guy cuts [E] him off before he ever sang one word
He goes hey man, I gotta stop you right there cuz we can't have a hit song country radio in three four time
And that just pissed me off
Nothing
[D#] [E]
says country music like three four time.
Come on now
So I went home and I wrote this verse for that record man
I'm gonna do the cleaned up version since we're going out on live.
Oh
Well, I knew it was [A] over
the [Em] day that I
over [A] heard a record
[E] Executive cry
Keep it all simple
Don't get offensive [C#m] and [B] don't play songs in three-quarter time
[C#] [E] Well, mr.
Record man.
I hope you don't take offense, [A] but you're a hell of a joke
I can [E] tell
You're the [A] reason we're in a
[E] Country have I [B] and their [E] fam country hell
[A] You're the reason we're in [E] a
Country have I [B] and their fam country
