Rather than focusing our efforts on improvising over the chord changes like we do in many of my
lessons, I've included a written passage that will work at shaping with the jazz sound and style.
It's okay if you're not very good at reading music.
Since most of the work we'll do in this
lesson is focused on the sound of things, you should be able to use your ear to guide you
through the passages.
In this process, we'll be working to include various inflection,
embellishment, and articulation techniques.
I'll give a few descriptions of these techniques as
we go along, but if you'd like to explore any of them in more depth, I'd suggest working your way
through my lesson entitled, Sax Tips, Inflection, and Embellishments.
Listen to the demonstration
of this excerpt.
I'll play it first on tenor sax, then I'll perform the alto transposition.
Listen to the style and inflection I add to the written notes.
Listen [F] to the style and
[Eb] [Gm] inflection [Eb]
[D] [Ab] [F] [Gbm]
[G] [F]
[G] [Bb] I add
[G] to the written notes.

Some of the nuances in the alto performance may be slightly different than the ones on tenor,
but I tried to keep them as reasonably consistent as possible.
Remember, they are two different
