Hey, what's up?
Neil Walter here from the Guitar Tricks [D#] channel.
Got a lesson coming
your way in the Jeff Beck style.
That's why I got my Strat.
What do you think about that?
Tip of the [F#] week, we had a lot of requests for the intro music to a certain Guitar Tricks
channel episode.
I wanted to let you all know that tabs to all of our Guitar Tricks channel
episodes are free online at www.guitartricks.com forward slash channel.
You'll find all the
tabs and notation right there.
So it'll show you exactly what you need to know in an easy
to understand form.
On to our lesson!
The Jeff Beck style, we're going to cover a little
bridge vibrato thing right here that Jeff Beck uses to kind of get his signature sound.
He does a lot of stuff with the whammy bar, finger picking, and stuff with the bridge.
I'm going to show you something you can do without your bar even being screwed in on
a Strat.
This works on a Strat.
It also works on a Floyd Rose type bridge as well.
And what
happens is after you strike the note, you just give the bridge a little thump with the
[D] palm of your hand like this.
[C] [A]
[G] [D] What it does is it raises the note up slightly.
[C]
[F#] And it
adds a nice little quick vibrato effect.
And you don't even have to do anything special
because it's just right there at your palm.
So here's an [C#] example of how I might use this
technique using an A [D] minor pentatonic scale.
[C] [F#] [D]
[C] [F#]
[D] And then sometimes he'll do it over and over
again like this.
[F#]
[C] Another thing to remember too when you're using a Strat type bridge
without the bar, that you can actually still do bar type [Dm] tricks just by putting your fingers
underneath the bridge [D#m] and lifting up a little bit.
[D] [C] [D]
[F#m] [D#] So this is a fun little trick and it's
a great way to add a little bit of extra flavor to your guitar playing style even if you're
not a Jeff Beck fan.
And if you are, of course you'll want to do that as well.
And we've
got a great artist study on the whole Jeff Beck style available at GuitarTricks.com where
you can also leave me requests in our forum on Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, and YouTube.
That's it for this week.
We'll see you back here in seven.
Keep playing.
Do it every day.
It's good for you.
