Jam Along & Learn...
In this video we're looking at Jesus Just Left Chicago, the open tuning version,
I believe [Eb] he used on the studio version he [E] recorded,
and I'll show you why when we get to it.
Before, I have another video out showing it in [D] standard tuning.
[Em] [Eb] [D]
And so we're doing things like that.
[D] But it really makes it easier if you drop this A string down to a [A] G note.
[Eb] or you can [Em] play an octave with your G string, G [A] chord.

_ In this video we're looking at Jesus Just Left Chicago, the open tuning version,
_ [E] which is what I believe [Eb] he used on the studio version he [E] recorded,
and I'll show you why when we get to it. _ _ _
Before, I have another video out showing it in [D] standard tuning. _
_ [Em] _ _ [Eb] _ _ _ _ [D]
And so we're doing things like that.
[G] _ _ [Bb] _ _
_ _ [D] But it really makes it easier if you drop this A string down to a [A] G note.
_ _ [G] _ So you can tune it there, [Eb] or you can [Em] play an octave with your G string, G [A] chord.
_ _ [G] _ _ _ _ _
Like that. _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ [Db] _
You'll notice this first [D] lick, _ [Em] that _ [Eb] _ _ [Bb] _ [G] _ _ [E] gets a lot easier [D] instead of playing that.
Give it a little bend on that first fret.
We don't have to_
It's a lot easier just [G] to _ [D] bend on the third and pull off.
[G] _ _ _
_ _ _ [F] Plus, if you want to play the [G] bass now,
_ _ [C] _ _ _ [G] _ _ _
_ _ _ [C] _ _ you've got [G] that open, what [E] is now a G note, your fifth string.
_ _ When you [C] come up here, _
_ [F] _ [B] if you play the C and F version like this on these three [E] strings,
you [G] add this [Db] bass note on the fifth string, and that's a [C] C now. _ _
_ [F] _ _ [C] _ _ _ Let's [Dbm] start from the top now, kind [F] of go through the licks with that tuning. _ _
_ [Eb] _ So, he starts off bending this B flat and landing on a [G] G. _
_ _ [C] _ _ _ _ [G] _ _
_ _ [C] _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ [E] So then we [F] come up to the C [C] again. _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ [F] _ _ _ [G] _
_ _ [E] He doesn't do that, but you can [G] throw that in there.
_ _ _ [C] _ _ _ _ [G] _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
[E] _ So now when you go to the [Cm] A in the C [C] chord,
you're going to have to bring that fifth string up too.
So [D] it ends up being these four notes [A] together. _ _ _
_ _ _ _ [C] _ _ _ [G] _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ [E] And then you've got this nice way of bending this up,
_ playing the G string and then [G] the low [Db] G on the [G] fifth string. _
_ You'll hear that a lot. _ _ _
_ _ [A] And then you've got this other [G] lick. _
_ _ [E] So right after you bend this [Db] up [G] and hit your two G strings,
_ like that,
_ _ _ you throw [Eb] in the high G [C] there _ _ [Em] _ [G] to begin that lick.
_ _ _ [C] _ _ [Em] _ _ _
[Eb] _ _ [G] _ _ _ _ [C] _ _
[Em] _ _ _ [Eb] _ _ [G] _ _ _
_ _ [Em] _ _ And then when he goes to the lead solo,
_ this is where when I was figuring it out,
[Fm] I really thought, yeah, he's got to be using that open tuning
because you hear [G] this, _ that G ringing out right as he gets into that. _ _ _
And if you're playing it down here [Ab] with that [G] bend,
_ _ _ _ [C] _ it just doesn't happen where [D] that's ringing out and that comes [E] in.
I went ahead and showed it in my other video in standard tuning
in case you just want to play it that way.
_ But [G] the licks are pretty [Eb] much the same.
I'll quickly go through [F] the lead [D] guitar solo here
_ [C] _ [E] with this tuning, but nothing really changes.
_ [F] You can see more [Eb] detail on [D] it in my other [G] video.
_ _ So then the lead comes in.
[F] _
_ _ _ _ _ _ [D] _ _
_ _ _ _ [G] _ _ _ _
_ [E] And here again, it's very nice.
And this [Gm] is where _ [Gb] that rings [F] out right as [E] he comes in with the higher part.
[F] _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ [G] _ _ [Gm] _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ [Db] _ _
[Gm] _ _ [D] _ _ _ _ [G] _ _
_ [Gm] _ _ _ _ _ _ _
[C] _ _ _ _ _ [Gm] _ _ _
_ _ _ _ [D] _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ [F] _
_ _ [G] _ _ _ [Eb] That's where you throw it in again.
_ [G] _ _ _ _ [Bb] _ _
[Em] _ _ [Eb] _ _ [G] _ _ [C] _ _
[Em] _ _ [Eb] _ _ [G] _ _ _ _
[Em] _ _ [Eb] _ _ [G] _ _ _ _
[C] _ _ _ _ _ [G] _ _ _
[C] _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
[F] _ _ _ _ _ _ [C] _ _
_ [F] _ _ _ _ _ [G] _ _
_ [C] _ _ _ _ _ [G] _ _
_ _ [C] _ _ _ _ _ [A] _
_ _ [C] _ _ _ _ _ [G] _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ [Em] And _ [Eb] _ [G] then the lead comes in.
_ [Em] _ _ [Eb] _ _ [G] _ _ _ _ [Em] _ _ [Eb] _ _ [G] _
