[B] Today I'm going to be lifting a lick right from Jimi Hendrix's repertoire, literally.
We're going to learn a lick that's right from all along the watchtower, about a minute in.
I'm going to break this lick up into three different sections [A] and also teach you its
origins from the C minor blues scale.

Now let's get started with this lesson.
Okay close look at the [Gb] fretboard, getting started learning the [Ab] scale that [Ebm] Jimi used
to create this [B] classic lick.
It's the C minor blues scale.
It starts [Cm] here on the 8th fret and it sounds like this. _ _ _ _
[Gb] _ _ _ [Eb] _ _ _ [F] _ _
[Gm] _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
[F] _ _ [Bb] _ _ [Eb] _ _ _ _
_ [C] _ _ _ _ _ Okay make sure you get that scale down, that was 8 to 11.
[Eb] On _ _ the A string we have 8, 9, 10.
_ [G] _ _ 8, 10 on [C] the D.
_ _ _ 8, 10, 11 [Eb] on the G.
_ _ _ And then we have 8, 11 on the [F] B.
_ And the high E [Gm] string, A, 11.
_ _ _ There's so many different options _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ [F] _ in [C] _ _
_ _ [Ab] that scale.
Okay now that you have that very common scale down, let's get started with the lick of the week.
This is a very [Bb] cool lick and great for someone to learn who's trying to build a little bit
of speed into their playing.
And it sounds great with wah-wah as you heard in our intro segment.
I'm going to put a link in the description where you can find the exact wah-wah pedal
that I used for that demonstration. _ _
Okay so one more time the lick sounds like this.

_ _ And we're going to break that up into a few parts.
The first part. _ _ _ _ _ _
_ Coming in on the third beat.
1, 2, 3. _ _ _ _
So it's actually between beats 3 and 4.
1, 2, 3. _ _ _ _ _
Alright so that was the 8th fret, G string.
_ _ _ Then [F] the 10th fret of the G string.
_ _ [F] With a little bend.
_ _ _ [Bbm] _ _ _ [Gm] _ _
Then I'll go to the 8th fret, B [Eb] string. _
1, 2, 3. _ _ _ _
Okay [Bb] then after that we're going to have the high E string, 8th fret starting us off.
Segment 2. _ _
_ _ _ _ _ [F] _ _ _
[Cm] _ _ _ _ One more time.
_ [Bb] _ _ _ _ [F] _ _ _
[Cm] _ _ _ _ _ _ Okay so that was the 8th fret, high E string. _ _ _
Then the 11th fret, B string with a bend.
_ [Bb] _
_ _ _ Back [Ab] to the 8th fret, high E string.
_ _ _ Then a pull off.
_ _ _ 11 to 8.
[Gm] _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ Then we're going to grab the G string, [Gb] 10th fret.
_ _ [C] And bend it up.
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ [F] _ _ _ _ [Gb] _ _ _
_ [Gm] _ _ _ Then we're back to the 8th fret, _ B [Bb] string. _ _
_ Then the high E string, 8th fret. _
_ _ _ _ _ [F] _ _ [Cm] _

Alright let's put the two parts together now.
We have 1, 2, 3. _ _ _
_ _ _ [Eb] _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ [C] _ _ _ _
Alright now part number 3.
[Bbm] One _ _
[F] _ _ _ [Cm] _ _ _ _ _
_ [Eb] _ _ _ _ _ _
more time. _ _ _ _ _ _
[F] _ _ _ _ _ [Eb] _ _ _
_ _ _ So that was the 11th fret of the B string. _
We're going to pull off to the 8th [Bbm] fret.
_ [Gm] _ _
_ _ Then we're going to have the 11th fret, G [Gb] string.
_ _ _ [F] 10th fret. _
[Eb] _ Pull off to the 8th. _
_ _ _ [F] _ _ _ _ [Cm] _
_ _ _ _ 10th fret, D string.
Then grab the G string, 10th [G] fret. _
_ Bend it up about [Eb] a whole step. _ _
_ _ Then vibrato on the 8th fret.
Now I want you to keep in [N] mind that when you bend the G string there, _ _ you're going to kill
the note.
Lift it up. _ _
_ _ And then put your pick over top of the string _ [Eb] _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ to staccato that note.
Okay so part number 1. _ _ _ _
