Hey [B] everyone and welcome back to Swift Guitar [Gbm] Lessons for another Patreon lick of [E] the week.
[B] Today I'm going to be lifting a lick right from Jimi Hendrix's repertoire, literally.
We're going to learn a lick that's right from all along the watchtower, about a minute in.
I'm going to break this lick up into three different sections [A] and also teach you its
origins from the C minor blues scale.
[Ab] I've got all the tabs [Eb] available for you at [Ab] patreon.com slash [B] swiftlessons where you can
support the channel for just a dollar a month, you can gain access to my exclusive resources.
Now let's get started with this lesson.
Okay close look at the [Gb] fretboard, getting started learning the [Ab] scale that [Ebm] Jimi used
to create this [B] classic lick.
It's the C minor blues scale.
It starts [Cm] here on the 8th fret and it sounds like this.
[Gb] [Eb] [F]
[Gm]
[F] [Bb] [Eb]
[C] Okay make sure you get that scale down, that was 8 to 11.
[Eb] On the A string we have 8, 9, 10.
[G] 8, 10 on [C] the D.
8, 10, 11 [Eb] on the G.
And then we have 8, 11 on the [F] B.
And the high E [Gm] string, A, 11.
There's so many different options
[F] in [C]
[Ab] that scale.
Okay now that you have that very common scale down, let's get started with the lick of the week.
This is a very [Bb] cool lick and great for someone to learn who's trying to build a little bit
of speed into their playing.
And it sounds great with wah-wah as you heard in our intro segment.
I'm going to put a link in the description where you can find the exact wah-wah pedal
that I used for that demonstration.
Okay so one more time the lick sounds like this.
[Gm]
[G]
[Eb]
And we're going to break that up into a few parts.
The first part.
Coming in on the third beat.
1, 2, 3.
So it's actually between beats 3 and 4.
1, 2, 3.
Alright so that was the 8th fret, G string.
Then [F] the 10th fret of the G string.
[F] With a little bend.
[Bbm] [Gm]
Then I'll go to the 8th fret, B [Eb] string.
1, 2, 3.
Okay [Bb] then after that we're going to have the high E string, 8th fret starting us off.
Segment 2.
[F]
[Cm] One more time.
[Bb] [F]
[Cm] Okay so that was the 8th fret, high E string.
Then the 11th fret, B string with a bend.
[Bb]
Back [Ab] to the 8th fret, high E string.
Then a pull off.
11 to 8.
[Gm]
Then we're going to grab the G string, [Gb] 10th fret.
[C] And bend it up.
[F] [Gb]
[Gm] Then we're back to the 8th fret, B [Bb] string.
Then the high E string, 8th fret.
[F] [Cm]
[C]
Alright let's put the two parts together now.
We have 1, 2, 3.
[Eb]
[C]
Alright now part number 3.
[Bbm] One
[F] [Cm]
[Eb]
more time.
[F] [Eb]
So that was the 11th fret of the B string.
We're going to pull off to the 8th [Bbm] fret.
[Gm]
Then we're going to have the 11th fret, G [Gb] string.
[F] 10th fret.
[Eb] Pull off to the 8th.
[F] [Cm]
10th fret, D string.
Then grab the G string, 10th [G] fret.
Bend it up about [Eb] a whole step.
Then vibrato on the 8th fret.
Now I want you to keep in [N] mind that when you bend the G string there, you're going to kill
the note.
Lift it up.
And then put your pick over top of the string [Eb]
to staccato that note.
Okay so part number 1.
Part [Gm] number 2.
[F]
[C] [Gm] Part number 3.
[F] [Cm]
[Eb] All together [F] [Gm]
[F] [Cm] [Eb]
