Anyway, I was on this gig at the Gaslight in 1966 and
My friend Ben Afflebaum came over and said man
There's this guy playing at the Cafe Wa jamming over there, and he's playing this stuff off your your
So many roads album better than you [Eb] man, and I went [Db] whoa
So I went over between sets and I was introduced to
Jimmy Hendrix who was at that time called himself Jimmy James and And
He was phenomenal.
I mean upside down left-handed
Played stuff that I'd never heard.
You know [Ab] the likes of and [N] I mean he could play anything
He heard you know as well as just amazing guys.
No guitarist has come close to him.
They're all like roadies and
guitar techs and there's some amazing guitar players, but
the guy is just
He took us to places that nobody will ever take us to I'm a huge Hendrix fan, and I don't know how you could play
electric music and not be a Hendrix fan because
[Eb] He was so far beyond where anybody was at the time
Basically he's still so far beyond what anybody's doing now and it's for his time
It's just basically incomprehensible that he did what he did
I bowed down to Hendrix every time I pick up the guitar and then often I'll listen to a Hendrix record and just want
to quit every time there was a an interview with
Keith Richards or Clapton or Townsend [G] or Jeff Beck or whoever the Jimmy Page whoever was around at the time they all
raved about
[G] Jimmy Hendrix, you know what an incredible guitarist he was now they've never seen
Skill like it on the guitar to me the significance of Jimmy Hendrix is what he did [Eb] with the guitar
How you know when he started playing what he did with it where he took music in such a brief amount of time
I mean [Ab] dead at dead at 27 with this
Incredible body of work behind him more than pretty much any
Contemporary guy has done like Eric Clapton's had 30 years at it now
And it's still he's dwarfed by this kid who died a long time ago and Eric Clapton's great
but Jimmy Hendrix comes once in the history of the world and
we're just lucky enough that we were able to get him on tape and video and film and whatnot and
to me
The my favorite thing about Jimmy Hendrix besides all that talent and all that soul is his love of the blues and
How such a young guy was able to articulate blues music make it his own and by the end of his career
He was a serious bluesman a bluesman to be reckoned with and that's a that's a genre of music where you you better have your licks
Together because someone will come and like dress you down very quickly, and he really had it
