_ [Eb] I went right back in and I'm going [Bb] right back [Cm] in again.

[Bb] _ _ [Fm] _ We're going to take it like we in church.
Well, [Cm] evolution. _ _
[Fm] I feel to evolve at this point in [Eb] the R&B game is to go back, [F] _ [Cm] to double back basically.
To [F] go back and snap some pages from the old school artists, _ [Bb] 70s, [Cm] 60s, 50s, 80s, even some of that.
[Ab] _ _ The artists were so [Eb] genuine and so [D] organic and [Cm] _
_ [Eb] just real about what they did.
[Gm] _
[F] When you heard them, you _ _ [Eb] felt them.
It wasn't just him, you felt them. _ _ _ _ _
_ [Bb] _ _ _ _ _ [Ab] And _ _ _ I want to bring the essence of R [Fm]&B back to the evolution, evolve it to what it [C] used to be.
[Eb] _ _ _
I want to [Fm] bring as many people on board as I can.
I want to get my other artists _ that we all know and [Ab] love _ to continue to do this music.
Because it's passionate, [Eb] it's one of the most passionate [Fm] _ [Gm] genres of music that you're going to [Ab] find. _ _
[Eb] _ [F] _ _ [Cm] _ [Eb] _ _ _ _
_ [Bb] _ _ _ [Fm] _ It's _
_ _ [Bb] _ _ [Cm] _ _ _ _
_ not _ [Eb] too much gimmicky that you can do with R&B [Fm] because it has to come from the heart for the most part.
_ _ So as far as I'm concerned, [C] I want more artists to come in and embrace it, to be real [Ab] about it [Eb] and to give it to the world.
I mean, just spread, spread.
It's love.
R&B is really love.
That's really what it is.
[Bb] _ _ _ [Cm] _
_ _ _ _ _ [Bb] _ _ [Cm] _
_ _ _ [Ab] _ _ _ _ [Eb] _
_ _ _ For [Cm] me at the end of the day, it's about _ _ [Eb] _ just being really true to it.

[Cm] _ _ _ And I can't go any further _ [Eb] if I can't please myself, make myself happy with what I've done.
So any accomplishment that I'm striving to have, it has to be a personal thing, it has to be really embedded in me [Gm] from [Ab] day one.
[Gm] My mindset [Ab] has to be right.

_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ [Ab] _ _ _ For me, it's about continuing to [Bb] do what I love, [Ab] man.
_ I look at the music industry, how it [C] has, as far as R&B is concerned, how it [Bb] has downgraded a bit.
[Fm] The energy is not what it used to be back in the 90s.
_ Everybody want to make a little money, they want to make some [Eb] pennies.
So they go the pop route.
[Ab] I have nothing [Eb] against pop music.
I dance to it, have parties to [Fm] it, but _ I will never alienate my core [Gm] [Ab] audience. _
To _ those [Eb] who have supported my music since _ 20 years, I [Ab] mean, this is my 20th year in the music industry.
[Eb] _ _ _ _ Ten albums.
[Gm] I'm very fortunate and very [Ab] blessed.
Not a lot of people get the opportunities that I've had.
[Cm] And I take it very serious, and [Fm] today was a [Gm] very serious day for me.
I [Fm] didn't want to take it lightly.
And so I'm very [Cm] happy, very excited to be here, very excited about this new record. _ _ _ _
[Ab] _ _ _ _ _ _ [Fm] _ [Gm] _
_ Today I'm going to be [Eb] human too.
I'm going to be a human being and talk about some things that I might have experienced and just keep it [Fm] 100% _ [Eb] _ real with you.
This album is everything that I've done since day [Ab] one.
[Eb] And I thank God for that.
It's just being who I am. _
I've never tried to sugarcoat it or try [Fm] to hide a facade or something that I wasn't.
Try to be somebody that I wasn't.
I went through my baggy jeans at one point, and Timberlands.
[Eb] _ _ _ _
_ And my jerseys.
I had the jerseys when the jerseys was popping too.
[Gm] _ Air [F] Force Ones and all that.
[Gm] _ _ [Eb] But at a certain age, _ you start to see life a little differently. _
[Ab] You start to appreciate things in life on a different curve, so to speak.
I got nothing [Eb] against _ [Bb] _
anybody [Eb] the way they want to live their life.
But I'm just going to show you, _ _ I got to be an [Fm] example.
[Eb] I got to live by [Fm] example and be an example to [Eb] the young generation that's coming.
Because I really feel that they have no direction where they really want to [Fm] go.
And they're leading on guys like myself and guys like [Gm] the hip-hop [Eb] industry to sort of take them in a direction. _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ [Bb] _ _ _ [Fm] _
_ _ _ _ _ [Bb] _ _ [Eb]
This is an experience for me.
Every day is just that I wake up, every journey, every album, [Ab] everything I do, every performance.
It's a hell of an [Bb] experience for me.
[Fm] And I'm glad to have you all a part of my experience, and I hope [Eb] this experience for you _ _ is something that you can remember.
And maybe take something from.
[Bb]
That's all [Cm] it is.
_ _ _ [Bb] It builds character.
_ [Fm] It builds a person.
_ [F] _
And because of New [C] York City, [Eb] that built a whole new generation.
And that's another persona and character for me.
Because from Georgia, I was a little bit more laid back. _
Now when I attack these records and these songs, [Dm] you're getting a full [Eb]-blown Joe.
I mean, I'm not holding back any [Bb] of it.
