Neil Walter here from the Guitar Tricks channel.
Got some Joe Perry style leads coming your way this week.
[B] Very cool stuff.
First off, tip of the week for a little inspiration, try playing a different guitar.
It's easy to get stuck with your favorite guitar and play it all the time.
But step outside your box, pick up an acoustic, try a different style guitar, try a friend's
guitar, because you play each guitar differently.
Give you a little inspiration.
So the lick for this week's lesson goes a little something like this.
Really cool, [A] bluesy lick. _ _ _ _
[Bb] _ _ [G] _ And there's a great combination of notes going on here.
You got the minor [B] third, major third, [C] _ _ _ and [Db] the flat fifth right here.
[D] _ And so the way it starts is [C] with a bend up to the minor third, which would be this note,
from the fifth fret of the E [A] string.
And then you want to stop the string at the top of the bend. _ _
[G] I'm going to go to the third fret of the E string and match it with the bent note here
on the sixth fret of the B string.
[Ab] So [Gm] the _ _ second half of the lick starts on the third fret of the B string, [E] and it goes between
[Dm]
that note and the flat fifth _ [Db] _ twice. _
[A] And then there's a little back and forth here.
_ [B] _ _
_ [D] _ _ _ _ End up on the third fret of the B string, and then you're going to roll [Bb] over the _ [E] minor
third to give it a slight [G] bend, and then end up on the fifth fret of the D string.
[A] So put those two parts together slowly, and it goes a little something like this. _
[F] _ _ _ [D] _ _ _ [Db] _ _
[C] _ _ [D] _ _ _ [G] _ _
One more time slowly.
_ [E] _ _ [Bb] _ _ _
_ [D] _ _ _ [Dm] _ _ [Db] _ _
_ [B] _ _ _ [D] _ _ [Bb] _ _
[G] _ _ _ _ _ It's really cool the way that Joe uses these notes.
You've got these four notes all [Bb] together, _ _ _ [Db] which normally you don't see in the same [Em] musical sentence.
But it's a really tasteful way of putting them together without it sounding like it's
off, totally bland.
Plus it's got a lot of really colorful notes in there too.
So this is an awesome lick.
You can move it around.
The tonic's right here.
[D] So whatever key you're in, if you're in the key of A or up here in the key of E, just
put your first finger on the E and [Em] _ _ [Bb] _ _ _ [Em] you [E] have the same lick right there.
That's it for this week.
Thanks for tuning on in.
