_ _ _ _ [G] I had [Eb] a dream a while back, a couple [G] of years ago, and it was kind of a remarkable dream. _ _
_ [C] It was, the start of it was I was spit out of the belly of a whale, [E] _ and I _ landed in the
sea and I became a silkie, a [F] seal, that's a human, you know, a human [A]
seal, kind of like
a legend [G] along the island coasts of Scotland and [Eb] Iceland, the Shetland Islands, Ireland,
[A] and _ [B]
it's basically like, you know, dead, people who have died at sea come back as silkies,
[E] and when they go on land they [N] have to take off their silky skins and leave them on the
land, but if you [C] catch a silky skin, or if you find a silky skin, _ [D]
then [A] the silkie is
indentured to [G] the human, or enslaved to the human pretty much, until such time as the
[C] human gives the silky skin back, or you find it.
So anyway, I became a silkie, and then
I looked down, [B] and I was a female [E] silkie, _ _ [N] and then I looked to my side and I had a baby
silkie with me, and so I swam to the shore, there was a [G] big thunderstorm coming, and I
swam to the shore, and when I got on the shore I took off our silky skins and lay there in
the sand on the [N] cliffs, and fell asleep, and we were there for three days, and on the third
day when I [F] woke up the child was gone, and I was looking frantically around for this
child, and [N] in the distance there was this lighthouse, this beaming lighthouse like this,
and so I decided I had to go to it as quick as I could, so I went to this lighthouse,
and I went closer and closer until I got to the lighthouse keeper's house, and I looked
into the lighthouse [C] keeper's house, and there in a cot, _ _ in a crib, was my child, and [Abm] the
lighthouse keeper and his wife were [Em] looking lovingly at it, [Ab] and there on the hook was
a silkie skin, _ [N] and then I dropped another tab of [Ab] acid, _ _ [N] _ and went on from [G] there. _ _ _ _ _
So anyway,
I figured this was a [E] remarkable enough dream to [G] actually write a song about it, so _ [D] this
is called Silkie.
