[G] This one came to me as a poem that a friend of mine [E] sent to me a long time ago.
[N] My friend's mom was a nurse in the Philippines during World War II at a military [Fm] hospital
and she saved this poem [G] from them.
And they didn't know who wrote it.
They thought that I was [D] patient.
They sent it to me.
I made it into a song.
A couple people recorded it before I finally [Gm] did it.
[D]
David Wilcox [Bm] did a version of it and Edwin [A#] McCain.
[A]
And my friend did a search when my version came out, my friend Marie Flannery who [N] sent me the poem.
I did a search on the internet and was able to find out that the author of the poem,
that this was based on her name was Thelma [G] Dean and she was from Western [D] Pennsylvania.
This is called Let Them In.

[D] Let them in, Peter.
They [A] are very tired.
[Bm] Give them couches where [A] the angels [G] sleep.
And light those fires.
Let [D] them wake up all again.
To [A] brand new dawns.
[Bm] Fired with the [A] sun.
Not [Em] war times [G] but you.
[D] May their peace be deep.
Remember [A] well the broken bodies lie.
[Bm] God knows how [A] young they [G] were.
To have to die.

In [A] a ripened pear.
[Bm]
Girls [A] who has metal [G] wings.
