I've always been attracted to music that's kind of personal and intimate, where you feel
like you can reach the performer, where there's not this image presented that it's kind of
larger than life.
And often presented in a way that, a musical way, where it's distancing as well.
It's like a big sound where you don't feel like you can
You know they're in there somewhere, but you don't know if you're hearing the artist or
you're hearing a producer's version of the artist's vision.
I always thought, what I liked about folk music is that I felt like you could write
a song about any part of your life.
I think it's one of the few forms of music where a purity of expression is possible.
And one of the few places that you can find honest music.
I was always important for me, it was the way I reached people more than how many people
I reached with the music.
I was interested in going as far as I could with the kind of music I wanted to do, but
I was not necessarily interested in becoming the biggest thing.
I wanted to reach, I would rather reach a small number of people in a very strong way
than a mass audience in a superficial way.
So I don't know if that's in the song or not, but this is called The Flying [D] Red Horse.
[G#] And this is a song about what might happen if one of the flying red horses from the [D] mobile
station should escape.

[D] The flying red horse [A] from the gasoline wars [G] took off from her station in [D] the sun.

[D] She's risen [A] up to the level of oak trees,
[G] too low [A] for the radar [D] man's eye.

[Bm] I am [A] not much [G] of a joiner, [E] she [Bm] says.
That's not where [A] I draw my [G] strength.

[A] [D] But I'm leaving this [A] unkind of sign life behind me.
[G] Take what [A] is mine and [D] be gone.
[A] [C#] [B] If you see [A] something red [G] flash across [A] the [F#] horizon, [Bm] it's not that [A] your eyes aren't [G] right.
[A] [Bm] She's taking her [A] place [G] with the red [A] -tailed hawks [Bm] and the broad [A]-winged birds in [G] flight.
