Hey, what's up you guys?
Marty Schwartz here with Marty Music and we're gonna learn this John Mellencamp Post Cougar
Mellencamp tune, Little Pink Houses.
It's got a cool little riff but easy chords.
Also if you haven't, I appreciate you subscribing to the channel and then I have a bunch of
helpful resources in the links down there.
So thank you for all that extra support.
Let's do it!
Alright, all easy chords, easy strumming.
The opening lick is not too difficult but it's a cool little like signature lick of the song.
So
[C] [G]
[C] [G]
I'm using a G major chord with the ring, middle, and pinky voicing or grip because
we're gonna do a suspended fourth.
So you're holding that third fret low E, high E, but then you move the middle finger over
to the second fret D and the index over to the first fret of the B like [C] this.
[G]
You can hammer those two right there and back to that [C] G.
[G] Classic folk-y acoustic technique.
But we do this little country slide and we're gonna pick that root, the third fret E, and
then pick it a second time and slide it up to the seventh fret which is also the second
fret on that A string which is the B note, the major [B] third of the chord.
So you get [G] the slick.
And then hop over to the open G and that gives you a split second to get your hand back to
that G chord.
[C] [G]
[C] [G]
Now the verse, very just steady easy strumming.
You could do down, down, up, up, down, up, down, down, up, up, down, up.
You know there's variations but just that basic pulse on the down beat.
[F#] And the first change is F, C, G, real [F] quick [C]
[G]
to another verse.
[F] So I'm playing an F.
If you could play a full bar chord, great.
A great open [C] version is the third fret A, third fret D, [F]
second fret G, first fret B.
[C]
Because then you can just switch, pinky comes off, middle finger moves over and now you
have a C chord.
[F] [C]
And then [G] real easy voicing of moving those up to [F] the G.
[C] [G]
[F] So [C] F, C, [G] G, more strumming.
Another verse.
And now this time, [F]
F, [C] C, [G]
G.
[F] So the first change, [C] F, C, G, holds on G, G, G, G, G.
And then the second time, [F] right before the chorus, F, 3, [C] 4, C, 2, 3, [G] 4, G, 2, 3, 4.
So that's the change.
I mean that's what's different.
And then the chorus is real easy C chord.
Ain't that a [C] C chord?
[G] G, then the [C] C [G] to the G.
A third repeat, [C] C, [D] then the D, hold on D, then [G] [C] C.
[G]
[C] [G]
So check it out.
G, G, G, G, G, it holds on G, G, [F] [C]
F, C, [G] G.
I went quicker there, but you get the idea.
G, G, holds on G for a long time.
G, G, G, G, but this [F] time it's F, 2, 3, [C] 4, C, 2, 3, [G] 4, G, 2.
And then the [C] chorus is C, [G] G, and [C] C, [G] G.
A third time, [C] C, then [D] up to D, hold on D, D, D, [C] D, C, and [G] a little riffy-poo.
[C] [G]
[C] [G] One other thing, that longer F, C, G becomes [F] a little instrumental.
[C] [G]
[F] [C] [G]
[C]
[D] [Am] [G] And that'll get you through it.
[E] All right, hope you guys enjoyed the lesson.
Once again, thank you for supporting.
And [G#] if you feel like it, I appreciate you [C#] subscribing to the channel.
And then also I can help you with the [F#] links down there.
[E] All right, take care.
