[E]
[A]
[G] Hey everybody, this is John Petrucci of Dream Theater and Liquid Tension Experiment.
I'm here with Metal [F#] Sucks and today I'm [G] going to go through some [N] covers of my music that people have posted to YouTube and give you some reactions in real time.
I haven't seen any of these yet.
So let's start with number [C] one.
[E] Wow, some of these kids are really young.
[Bm]
Wow, [E] that's amazing.
Yeah, [Dm] [E]
this band looks like they're all really young kids.
They [Em]
obviously [F] [Em]
know what they're doing.
They've been practicing.
[F#] [Dm] [E]
I love this cover.
[Am] Totally gives a whole new life to [Em] the sound of [Bm] the song.
[C]
Amazing [G] [B] to see a bunch of young kids again.
Really, really [G] cool how [Bm] much talent [B] there is out there.
[G] This is [Bm] Marcus.
I heard they say he's a kicker too.
[Em] [A] [Bm]
[Em] [Bm] This boy is doing [Em] something really cool.
What's he [A] doing here?
[Bm] Is that [G] how it goes?
I don't know.
[F] Very cool.
Guitar player [Dm] has my old Ivan and Siggy Jamal.
[C] [D] Keyboard [C] player has the old spinning [Dm] [Em] [C] keyboard [G] stand just like Jordan with the [D] camera on it.
[Em] [F]
Nice.
[Gm] And he's showing [C] a montage of photos [G] [A#] of [F]
[Gm] [F] James and Reef Hopped in there.
[D] Not in [A#] liquid tension experiment.
[A]
[N] Oh, Berklee Guitar Night.
Wait a second.
That's my friend John Finn.
When John Mayung and I went to Berklee College of Music many, many, many years ago and met Mike Portnoy there and that was the beginning of Dream Theater.
John and I actually played Berklee Guitar Night at the Performance Center.
So I [F#] know what this is all about.
[G#] Big time.
[Bm] Paradigm Shift is definitely one of the craziest songs for [E] sure.
And then Acid Rain.
Let's see.
The guy's playing a [B] 7 because he needed a 7 to play Acid Rain.
[F]
[C] Let's see.
There they go.
They moved on to Acid Rain.
[Em]
[Am] [Bm] [F#] Killer.
These guys are world class [F#m] obviously.
And it [G] looks like they're having fun too.
[A] Really cool.
You know what?
I have to confess I've seen this one [Em] before.
[Am] [Bm] This is pretty awesome.
[A] [Em] It's Acid Rain but [Bm] like the instrumentation is [A] just [Em]
completely
[B] They're [F#] playing on instruments, [Em]
on 3-string instruments [Bm] and
[G] How is he playing that [C#m] insane [Em] part on a [Dm] 3 [Em]-string instrument?
[E] I've never heard my song done on synth because it's a guitar, a full guitar album.
Let's see what happens here.
The songs haven't been transcribed yet so somebody obviously had to do the transcription.
Oh that's cool.
Piano for this [B] part.
[A]
[B] Nice.
[E] I did a [F#m] video for [G]
[C] Terminal [Em] Velocity, a playthrough, but that was the only song.
So everything else, positioning for any [G] other song, [B] you'd have to transcribe by [F#m] ear.
[G] Tricky part.
[C] [Em] Awesome technique.
Perfect.
[B] He's making it look like [F#]
easy.
[E] He has no problem with any of this.
[D] [Fm] Oh those [D#] sweeps are crazy.
Great job.
[Gm]
[D#] Wow.
This guy could be my stunt [A#m] double.
He's got the feel all right.
[A#] Yeah, he's [B] [C] rocking.
[F] This song has a swing to [C] it.
He's nailing the swing.
[Fm]
A little altered scale there.
[A#] Nice man.
[C#]
[Fm] Very, very cool.
[C#] Really cool.
[A] Oh [E] nice.
[A] I love the setting here.
He has [E] [D] my signature Ernie Ball music man and it looks like I [A] signed it so I might have met him as well.
Very cool.
[Bm] [E] I love this outdoor setting that he's [B] in.
This is [D] killer.
[D#] I always look forward to it.
[Cm] He has a slow-mo going with the video.
[G#]
Again, great setting.
[D#] [F] Oh what have we got here?
We've got Marimba, [Fm] Mallet, Shred.
What the hell is going on [G] here?
Oh no way.
You've got to be kidding.
This is awesome.
Rahul Dhanamali.
I love seeing [G#] different [C#] guitar, keyboard, [E] passengers, whatever, [Gm] played on instruments
[C#] other than what it was written on and seeing people's interpretations.
This is really [N] cool.
This has been cool.
This has been a lot of fun for me.
I'm just always amazed by how much talent there is out there in all parts of the world, all ages.
It blows me away.
It's inspiring.
This was really a lot of fun for me.
Anyway, I had fun and that's it for Metal Sucks.
John Petrucci signing off.
I hope to see everybody out there eventually.
We need to get back to live concerts.
I can't wait.
Until then, take care everybody.
