[A] I take too much abuse from [E] you, that's all I ever get.
Yeah, a car like you, a husband, is just like calling a wild [A] cat a pet.
Just like the first one, I sat down and [B] made a list, you know, and the only people I couldn't get were because they were out on tour.
But, jeez, I mean, we just made a list and started calling around and they were all available.
So, it worked out, it worked out just fine.
After I found out this was going to be a whole new album and not just six cuts, I called Rooney up and said,
I said that we're Haas and Chief, and I said, hey Haas, we're going to get a chance to go back in and do Inspire Ourselves Part 2.
And he went, yahoo!
Both Inspire Ourselves and the record I did with Mack Wiseman, [E] Standard Songs for Average [B] People.
I had more fun doing that stuff.
I mean, I'm always glad to get a new John Prine record out, but boy, it sure is painful for me to do.
To go through the whole process of it where with this I can just pick songs that I really enjoy and just sing them as good as I can.
And meanwhile, enjoy the whole process.
Where with my own records, I don't enjoy them until they're done, you know, and the picture's taken.
It's so easy to make a recording when everybody's just enjoying it.
Like you wish you almost had made a mistake.
So you can play the song again because we have to jump right to the next song, you know.
But Inspire Ourselves is 18 years old, and it's sold more than any of my other records on Oh Boy.
It's a slow seller like a jazz record, you see, but it keeps selling.
And I'm pretty sure that a lot of it came from the title song because it really got around.
We even got it recorded [C#] by Miss Piggy and Kermit.
It got them back together, actually.
Everybody thinks Jack White got them back together, [D#m] but it was me, you know.
[E] They sang Inspire Ourselves, and that's when they kind of finally got the flicker.
Like I started back, you know, got Kermit's girlfriend jealous and everything.
You know, over at John Prine's.
I kind of like that.
[C#] That's my [E] legacy.
Take my [A] bag and go.
You're gonna [F#m] miss me, honey gal.
Are you [A] kidding me?
You're gonna miss me and my hefty bag.
[Em] Watch me, I'm leaving now.
I'll take that garbage half the way
