Jam Along & Learn...
This is a song, I think I wrote this just after I first started performing in this little club in Chicago.
It was the kind of place where they let anybody get up on stage and sing.
I was assured of that, I got up.
sang three songs for these people.
up there and sing.
sing.
rest of the songs to fill up the other [E] 60 minutes.
was just Thursday night.

This is a song, I think I wrote this just after I first started performing in this little club in Chicago.
It was called the Fifth Peg. _
It was the kind of place where they let anybody get up on stage and sing.
So once I was assured of that, I got up.
[E] I _ [A] _ [B] _
sang three songs for these people.
It wasn't an audition.
It was just like you could just get up there and sing.
They offered me a job.
I couldn't believe it.
I asked them how long they had to sing.
When they told me 60 minutes, I said,
I [F] went home and wrote the rest of the songs to fill up the other [E] 60 minutes.
_ _ [N] I'd been working there, it was just Thursday night.
I worked there, I was a mailman during the day.
I still didn't feel confident enough to quit the post office.
I was singing here on Thursdays and I was going down about the fourth or fifth Thursday I worked.
I thought, boy, I bet that same guy is going to be sitting there in the front row.
I better have a different song.
So I wrote this song on the way down to the club. _
[E] _ _ _ _ I wish I could still do that.
Hey! _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ [A] _ _ _ _
[B] _ _ [A] _ [E] _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ [A] _ _ _ _ [B] _
_ _ _ [E] _ _ _ _ _
All the snow has [A] turned to water
_ _ _ [B]
Christmas days have come [E] and gone _ _ _
Broken toys [A] in faded colors
_ _ _ [B]
are all that's left to linger [E] on _ _ _
I hate [A] graveyards and old pawn shops
_ [B] for they always [E] bring me tears
I _ _ can't forgive the [A] way they robbed me
_ _ [B] of my childhood [E] souvenirs
_ _ _ [D#] _
[B] _ Memories, they [E] can't be bought _
[B] They can't be won at [E] carnivals for free
_ _ [B]
Well, it took me years [E] to get those souvenirs
[A] And I don't know how they slipped [B] away from me
_ [D#] _ [E] _
_ _ _ [A] _ _ _ _ [B] _
_ _ [F#m] _ [E] _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ [A] _ _ _ _ [B] _
_ _ _ [E] _ _ _ _ _
Broken hearts and [A] dirty windows
_ _ [B] _
make life difficult [E] to see _ _ _
That's why last night [A] and this morning
_ _ [B] _
always looked the [E] same to me _ _
And I hate reading [A] old love letters
_ _ [B]
for they always [E] bring me tears
I _ _ can't forgive the [A] way they robbed me
_ _ [B] _
of my sweetheart [E] souvenirs _ _ _
[F#m] _ [B] _ _ Memories, they [E] can't be bought
They _ [B] can't be won at [E] carnivals for free _
_ [B] Well, it took me years [E] to get those souvenirs
And [A] I don't know how they slipped [B] away from me _ _
