Hey, what's up you guys?
Marty Schwartz here with Marty Music and we're going to have a fun lesson on a Johnny Cash rhythm.
I think you guys are going to enjoy it.
But real quick, huge shout out to this video's sponsor, American Musical Supply.
Great online shop for all your musical needs.
They do fast free shipping, zero percent interest payment plans, and a huge selection of gear
and guitars and instruments.
You can't go wrong.
They're awesome.
But on top of that, they are giving away this awesome Martin Acoustic Electric Johnny Cash
model, the DX it's called.
Killer guitar, obviously black for Johnny Cash.
You got the Cash logo right here.
And it's killer.
You could win it thanks to American Musical Supply.
Check out the link in the description to see how you could possibly win it.
And let's get to the lesson.
All right, I'm going to start easy and we're going to add as we go along.
So let's start with an E chord and then we're going to also play a [A] seven and then the third chord.
So the blues chords, a [B] B seven.
[F#m]
[A#] [B] [N] So those are the three chords.
Now with my right hand, nice relaxed feeling.
We're going to go down, down, up, down, down, up, down, down, up, down, down, up, down,
up, down, down, up, down, [A] down, up, down, down, up, down, down, up, down, down, up,
down, down, [A#] up.
And that down, it's more you're trying to hit the bass notes.
So you don't have to be [F] like, it's more of a, you're just kind of aiming for the top there, right?
[E] So check it out, E chord.
Anytime you're trying to work on something new, you want lots of repetitions and you
want to vary the speed, but most importantly, you want to get it really good, super slow
and then add your speed.
So check it out.
Do do do do do.
Bum bum bum bum bum.
Now [A] A seven.
Same idea.
[E] Back to E.
Then we're going to do the B seven.
[B] It just stays there.
Then [E] back to E.
Speed it up.
[A]
[E] [A#]
[B] [E]
All right.
So that's what you start with.
Next, when we do the down up, we want to dig our palm and I guess it's going to [G#m] help to
maybe fan your fingers out because we're getting that palm muting sound in there on the [E] down up.
I'm just feeling those strings [C] underneath my [E] right palm there.
[A]
[E] [A#] [B]
[F#] [E] [Em]
[E] So I'm adding some more, right?
So we added palm muting and then on the B seven and [B] bum bum [E] bum bum.
So if I'm [A] on the A seven [Am] and [E]
[A#] [B]
then also [G] on [E]
[F#] that second fret, bend it.
[E]
Check it [A] out one more [A#] time.
[B]
[E]
[Em]
Okay.
We have more to add.
Now what we're going to do is we're going to add that bass line.
So on the E chord, you're still doing down, down, up, down, down, up, down, down, up,
down, down, up.
But now the downs, you want to try and alternate between that for the E chord.
It's going to be the E [E] string and the A string.
Check it out.
You can even add the octave of either, which would be the D string.
[Gm] Instead of that, [E] you can mix it, but the top two will be the best.
[G] [A] And [N] so when you go to the A seven, now we're reversing it.
It's going to be the [A] A string, E string, back [E]
to that.
[A#] [B] And on the B seven, it's like the A chord, but you have to move your middle finger.
[F#] [B]
So it's the A string, second fret, E string.
[F#]
[B] [F#] [Em] [A]
[Em] [C#m] [Em] [D] [Gm] [Em]
[E] So nice and [G#] slow.
We're going to go through it.
I'm going to put all those [E] elements together.
One, two, one, two, three, four.
Actually a little slower.
Here it is.
Next time through, I'll speed it up.
[A]
[Em]
[E] [A#m]
[B] [F#]
[E]
[A]
[E] Have [D]
[B] [F#m] [Em]
[E] fun with that.
All right.
I hope you guys enjoyed it.
