Okay, that's [N] much of the intent of my voice in a
in that medium.
Just to [G] give you an idea of the chords which we're doing, Joni of
course uses a dulcimer [Em] for this song.
I haven't got a dulcimer and the [D] dulcimer
shop is just [G] closed so I've got [N] standard acoustic guitar but I'm just trying to
replicate the chords on the [G] dulcimer.
We're starting off here, this is a D shape on
the seventh fret, [D]
then we go to here on the fifth and seventh fret, [G] then we [Gm] got
this [Bm] [G] on the third and fourth frets, it's actually the top part of a bar G [D] chord
there, but with the
[G] open strings as well.
[A] Then on to A, standard A, then down [D] to D.
I'm doing a
little trill on the [C] D again to replicate [D] the dulcimer.
What I'm doing
basically, standard D shape [G] but I'm hammering on and off with the little
finger on the top E string [A] and [C#] also with the first finger on the G string
on the [D] second fret.
[G]
[A] [D] [Gm]
[D] [C] Okay that's the intro part of it.
The main verse now
there's just three [D] chords involved, I'll show you the D, [A] standard D, standard [G] A
and standard G could be simpler.
So [D] the way it goes, down from F, so I'm just doing that little
trill, the little nuance from [A] there.
So what I'm doing on the A shape [E]
[A] is I'm
lifting my third finger on off.
[D] [A]
You can as well, it's [D] optional of course, but [A] you can
supplant your little finger [D] on the B string on [A] the third fret.
[G] [D]
[A]
See it's [N] just adding a little bit of flavouring because what you've got with this song, you've only got the three
chords all the way through it.
If you've got a great voice like Joan is that's
what your audience is going to be interested in, but you really need to do
a bit more showmanship maybe I think with just the three [D] chords there [N] to add
a little bit of flavour into the song as you're going along you [D] know.
Rather than
be accused of blandness you can put a [C] little bit of [A] showmanship into the
chords.
So what I'm doing there with the standard A chord.
[G] I'm truly sorry [D] to tell you, [A] it's really not my home.
[D] Even though it's filthy, [A] I never get home.
[G] What's your feeling [D] on me?
[B] The strumming [D] pattern again is something I know a lot of you guitar players, they'll have your own
strumming pattern.
What I'm doing with mine is I'm
[C] just slapping the heel of my palm
into the strings to dampen it for a [D] sort of rhythmic effect.
[G] [E] Okay well that's the essence of
