I [E] was
[Em] out in San Francisco last weekend talking to this new friend of mine.
He's a really great guy.
[B] Man, it's windy.
[D#] we just [N] happen to live in, for the time [D] being, one of the most powerful countries
in history, and that at [Dm] that same time there happens to be more [D] slavery than there ever
I know that may be surprising to some of you, but with the sex trade and forced labor worldwide,
our consumerism.

I _ _ _ [E] was _ _
[Em] out in San Francisco last weekend talking to this new friend of mine.
He's a really great guy.
We were just [N] talking about_ _ _ _
_ _ [B] Man, it's windy.
The fact that [D#] _ we just [N] happen to live in, _ for the time [D] being, one of the most powerful _ countries
in history, and that at [Dm] that same time there happens to be more [D] slavery than there ever
has been in world history.
I know that may be surprising to some of you, but with the sex trade and forced labor worldwide,
[C#] _ it takes people to fuel our consumerism.
_ _ [G] I know we don't buy things with evil intent, but often I think we're only a few people
_ removed from the actual slave [G#] master, those who are [D#] holding people in poverty and [C] exploiting them.
That's a truth that [B] I think we all need to own.
This isn't me sitting here pointing fingers at you, because I'm part of [N] this culture,
too.
I was born into this culture. _
But I'm realizing more and more that if we're willing, we need to think critically about
how we live our lives, even if we are removed from those who are being exploited, even if
we never see them.
The fact is the way we live our life affects the world.
_ _ _ [D] When it costs more to make something than it does to buy it here, there's some inequity.
[G#] Someone's not getting paid.
_ There's a [D] lot of slavery in the world, and I think [G] simple things we can do now can start
to change that.
But [E] for those of you who even want to get more [C#m] radical, I think _ _ [A#] things need to change. _
We've been [D#] placed in a culture where we can make [C] some of those decisions. _
This song is looking at that very thing on [C] the grand, eternal, epic [E] scale.
_ _ _ All through Rasta music, there's this comparison between [Em] Babylon and Zion.
Babylon, which is a [F] symbol of [D#] _ really evil [B] structures of men that [C] are used to hold others down.
_ Zion is this picture of [B] this mountain of the Lord where everyone [A] comes and everyone is
[D#] set free and every tear is washed away and there's no longer any equality.
_ _ _ [A#] _ _ [B] So this song is called Zion Babylon.

_ [E] _ _ I'm a [F#] poor child, _ I'm a [E] lost son.
_ [B] I refuse to give my love to [E] anyone.
_ Fight [G#] for truth to help the [B] weak ones. _ _
[F#m] Because I love my Babylon.
[E] _ _
I [F#] am a slave, _ I was [E] never free.
_ [B] I have betrayed you for blood and [E] money.
_ No, I [G#] fought the world, all [B] is vanity. _

Zion's [E] inside.
_ _ [B] I said don't trade your name for Syria.
[E] My priceless life's ripped off [B] from underneath _ _ where I found [E] you.
_ _ [B] I said my name ain't yours, yours is not [E] mine.
Mine is the Lord and yours is [B] my child.
_ That's how it's [E] always been.
_ [B] It's time to make a change, leave your home, [E] give to the poor, let [B] your home lose your
life so that [E] you can find it.
_ [B]
Let us be last when the true work [E] comes, live it like a humble fool [B] to overcome this upside down wisdom.
[E] _
_ Dying world, _ Zion now filled with [E] hands and in this place God [B] dwells with me.
Simply healed and crippled, standing high, _ hallelujah.
[B] My kingdom filled with blood, I'm lost [E] son.
Selfless sacrifice [B] for everyone.
Faith, hope, love and [E] harmony.
_ _ _ [B] I say let this world know me [E] by your love.
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ [E] _
_ _ Oh [F#m] my _ [F#] _
daughters and [E] sons, _ [B] I made you in love, [E] don't worry.
I'm free [G#] as a bird, [B] flowers in the sun.
On [F#m] your way [B] to my [E] Zion, _ _ all [F#] you _ slaves be [E] set free. _ _
[B] Come on out, come on [E] home to me.
We [F#] will [C#] _ dance, we [B] will rejoice.
