[Bb] Grammy award winning artist Juice Newton is headlining a local concert that's happening
on Saturday and it's for a great cause.
The concert benefits research for dystonia and she's here in studio.
Welcome.
And you live right here in San Diego County.
I do.
I live in Carmel Valley.
And so I just got back in last night.
I was in Washington.
I did a concert up there and then I'll go to Lafayette on Friday and then do a show
there and then fly back here for this show.
For this benefit.
So you are busy.
You are still performing all over around the country.
And this benefit that you're doing got started several years ago because of the number one
fan at your fan club.
Yes.
Paul Fowler and he is he is actually stricken with this particular type of disease and there's
a couple of forms of it.
It's called dystonia.
Dystonia.
And there's another type that affects physical and then the one that affects your voice.
Your voice.
So you lose the ability to speak.
And everyone's tight right now.
I know that.
And it's hard to get raise awareness of a condition that people maybe aren't as familiar with.
But it's very important.
So we need to try to do all we can to help everybody actually.
So dystonia it's a neurological condition.
Three hundred thousand people in this country suffer from it.
And so the money that was raised from the concert on Saturday will go to dystonia research.
We want to put up the information so people know how to get tickets and all of that good stuff.
Where is the concert going to be?
It's at the Joan Kroc Theater.
That's near the campus at San Diego State.
It's a lovely theater by the way.
And the tickets are available.
You can get them online and then you can get them there at the theater.
Fantastic.
Now tell us, you've been touring still.
Everybody knows you from the great hits that you have that are still so popular [Bbm] today.
What do you think about today's music?
Do you watch American Idol, Dancing with the Stars?
Are you into those shows?
I love that [E] Dancing with the Stars thing.
[Bb] I love that.
I think [D] that music is, [A] first of all, it's personal.
And if you're [Bb] a writer, and I write, I think there's some really great young writers right [G] now.
Some of it I think [Bb] is, not all.
Are you into rap?
I like the songs in that area that have messages.
The other stuff that is just noise.
Kind of noisy.
[C] Who are your favorite [Gm] artists, new artists today?
I really, really like Taylor.
[Bb] Taylor Swift.
I think, not just because she's country, but she's very young and she [Gm] writes.
As [Bb] far as females go, I really like Sheryl Crow.
[Bb]
Again, her writing is a little more mature.
I think that that's, I still like Bruce Springsteen.
Just because I love that energy and that, and I'm actually, I like rock stuff.
Not so much hip hop and pop, but like rock stuff.
Well, we like you, Juice Natans.
Thank you so much for stopping by.
It's great to have you here in San Diego.
You'll have to come back and visit us another time.
Once again, the concert is this Saturday at the Joan Kroc [Gb] Theater.
And it benefits Dystonia.
So [Bb] best of luck to you.
Hope you raise a whole lot of money.
Me too.
All right.
We're taking a short break.
Back with more right after [E] this.
