[Bb] I'm working on a new song.
Oh, oh.
[F] You
[B] know, [Bb] I
[Db]
[Gb] I'll [F] talk to you too.
[Bb] In the mid [C]
-1990s, I had a man [G] who was a part [F] of the head,
decided to change my life,
and I used to live for many years in this big old house in West London.
It was the most beautiful house.
It was a very theatrical place.
[A] [N] It belonged before me in the [F] 1950s and early 60s
to a big star of the musical theatre.
And it was a very theatrical, sort of thespian place.
But it was very old.
It went [Gbm] back to the mid-70s.
[Bb] And it had a beautiful [Ab] garden,
and the [Gb] tent, and the [Ab] most wonderful courtyard
[Gbm] you can make a [F] dramatic entrance [Bb] into.
And [Db] it had this sort of [Ebm] hall of a [F] lounge
with a minstrel's gallery and a big fireplace.
It was really [Bb] quite impressive.
And when my girlfriend and I [Ab] first moved there,
we moved from [N] a bed-sitting room.
[Bbm] And we got a mortgage [Bb]
and bought this place.
And we just lived in [F] the bedroom.
[Bbm] [Bb]
But [F] it was wonderful.
It was time to change my [Eb] life.
So, [Abm] [Bbm] much to the distress of [F] my family,
[Abm] so I decided to [E] pack up and [Db] even
Things had to be completely different.
I moved into an [A] apartment in France.
[Gm]
[A] And I met my [G] boarding partner, Alberto.
[Gm] [Gbm] And a lot of great musicians who lived along that Mediterranean,
along [Bb] the [Gbm]
[G] French and [Bb] Italian coast there.
Because [C] a lot of the Italian and French [Bbm] rock and rollers,
they [B] like American and British [D] musicians.
Because American and British [Eb] musicians
[G] And [Bb]
[A] so I met some great [Eb] musicians
who are still great [F] friends now.
But this place was still too big.
So now I live in a one-bedroom [Ebm] [N] flat
in the most beautiful part of the world,
with another little flat around the [Gb] corner
for my [Fm] guitars and keyboards.
[Ab] And
[F] so
But in all those years,
I [Db] was traveling so much on the road to the movies,
I just decided to keep [Bb] moving.
[D] And I went [Gm] east
[Bb] as well as west.
[N] And I met some people that I believe will be
[G] I sincerely hope will be in [Gm] each other's lives forever.
[F] And all those years I was carrying this little song around with [A] me.
[Bb] And one day at a recording [C] studio in Nice,
I [Bb] just decided
I suppose it's finished really.
And I put it [Fm] down.
And I'd like to play it for you now.
It's called The Eastern [Db] Sun.
Here [Bb] we go.
[F]
[Bb] [F]
[Bb] [F]
[Bb] [F]
[Bb] Let me be
[F]
[Bb] On a mission to [F] your heart
[Bb] On a journey to your [F] soul
[Bb] Let me be by your [F] side
[Bb] Let me [G] [F] be
Dedicated to your needs
[Bb] Silently [F] you breathe
[Bb] Let me be
[F]
Let [Bb] [F]
[Bb] me [F] be
[Bb] In the sky, the heart, and the [F] stream
[Bb] Let it go rich and [F] free
[Bb] Let me lay by your [F] side
[Bb] Let me [G] [F] be
[Bb] In focus when we're in [F] the trees
[Bb] Judging like [F] the breeze
Let [Bb] me be
[F]
[Bb] And [Gm] if we find [D]
[G] life's [Bb] mercy
[Eb] We'll [Bb] treasure [F] and [Eb] run from [F] the rain
[G] And maybe [D] somehow,
[G] [Bb] somewhere
Heaven [Eb] will find [F] us again
Let me live
In
[Bb] the
[F] east
[Bb] As we journey [F] on our way
[Bb] At the dawning of the [F] day
[Bb] Let me walk by your [F] side
[Bb] Let the moon and cloud [G] along

The cotton and the clove
[Bb] Let me [F] be

[Bb] No sorrow [F] and no shame, [Bb] that we [F] be
[Bb] And if [Gm] we find
[D] [Gm] life's [Bb] mercy
We'll shelter [Eb] and run [F] from the rain
[G] And maybe
[D] somehow, [G] [Bb]
somewhere
[Eb]
[Bb] And everyone [Eb] will [Bb] find us [F] again
Let [Bb] me [A] [F] be, on a mission to your heart
[Bb] On a journey to your [F] soul
[Bb] Let me be by your [F] side
Let me [Bb] [F] be,
[Bb] dedicated [F] to your needs
[Bb] So that when [F] you leave, [Bb] let me [G] [F]

_ _ _ _ [Bb] And _ _ _ _ if [Gm] we find _
_ [D] _ _ _ [Gm] life's _ [Bb] mercy
_ _ We'll _ _ _ shelter _ [Eb] and run [F] from the rain
[G] And maybe _ _
_ [D] somehow, _ _ [G] _ _ [Bb]
somewhere
_ _ _ _ [Eb] _ _ _
[Bb] _ And everyone [Eb] will [Bb] find us [F] _ _ again _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _
Let _ _ _ _ _ _ _ [Bb] me _ _ _ [A] [F] be, _ on a mission to your heart
[Bb] On a journey to your [F] soul
[Bb] Let me be by your [F] side
Let me [Bb] _ _ _ [F] be, _
_ [Bb] dedicated [F] to your needs
_ [Bb] So that when [F] you leave, [Bb] let me _ _ _ [G] _ [F] _ _
_ [Bb] _ be
