This is Ben from Goat Whore and you're watching Bloodstock TV.
[B] [A]
[B] [D#] [A]
Okay next up on Bloodstock TV we're having a chat to the guys from [C] Calicura.
How you doing guys?
[G] All good cool.
So you guys played on Friday, [A]
nice [E] early in the morning over on the new [G#] Bloodstock.
So how did you get on with that?
Was it busy?
Yeah [A] yeah really good.
For a start I said good
evening [G#] Bloodstock.
[A] It's dark [B] in there though to be fair.
It's dark [A] you're all right.
But yeah good crowd, great experience.
[G#] [C#] A few recognisable faces.
[A] We had some [G#] locals come up as well which was nice for a bit of support.
[G#m] Well you tend to get that obviously with the medals and the masses a lot of people [G#] will
have followed you right the way through [A] that and then as soon as you [B] get through to the [C] final
and they'll [C#] get their tickets.
So yeah it's all good for us as well so we'll get more people [E] here.
I would say [C#] when we [B] first started playing the set [G#] there was literally the people from
Oxford [C#m] that we recognised and then through the second set as soon as the smoke dispersed
it was a bit.
[C#] That's usually what a lot of people find is just that it's not always the case that
obviously I mean we've played you guys on the [B] podcast to try to get people aware of you before
they get here.
We noticed [G] we've been watching the YouTube [Em] views.
Yeah most of the [E] time the
new Bloodstage it's people wandering past [Em] or just in between going from stage to stage just having
a bit of a listen and thinking what it is but with the Bloodstock radio podcast we tried to play
all of the medals for the masses winners so that we could get [E] people to sort of like oh I quite
like the sound of them and actually put you on the clash finder before they actually start but
11.15.1 [Em] in the morning though shouldn't be too bad I wouldn't have thought you would have you know not up against too many other bands at that time in the morning. We were well happy with the turnout seriously you know it couldn't have gone better. It worked out well it worked out well. So let's rewind back to the medals for the masses then because I was there at the final with Simon Hall. I didn't have to judge it thank goodness it was his decision. He was just scared of my guns mate that's all it was. If you [E] want to buy me a thank you pint though that's all that's all fine. I only drink Jack Daniels though so [Em] as long as the pint's still all right. [E] Yeah well we're nearly done with these interviews I can start drinking then so it should all be good [Em] fun. On it like a cardboard. So yeah so medals for the masses then and I believe from what I can remember you guys have entered it a couple of times before and a couple of three different reasons. Since [E] 2009 yeah. Yeah. Nunning in Oxford. We did get to a final one time we couldn't play because [C] [E] some bass player and drummer [C#] decided that they [Em] needed to usher a wedding in Cyprus. The best man. Unfortunately it you know it kind of clashed with it that's the way it is. [A] We finally got here seventh attempt [B] again you know absolutely fantastic. [E] Message just out of the blue and he said do you want to play this [G] Battle of the [A#] Bands and [A] to be honest with you. 2009. I was gonna be like well what [Am] is this it's new to us. He said oh you get a chance to play Bloodstock. [N] What's Bloodstock? Okay let's play that [D] let's absolutely play that. The [E] bigger it's got and the better it's got you [D] know. [A] Awesome awesome. [C] Chipping away [Em] and that's just a message to [A] anyone that's trying um don't give up just keep chipping away. Yeah. Honestly don't be deflated [Em] or gutted that you've lost because uh [A] yeah. Well that's a good thing. God loves a try. [Em] I say I've covered the Metals of the Masses for the last few [E] years now and you do get I mean we have one of the bands I think was [Em] raised by ours but literally their first gig was the Metals of the [C#] Masses this year so some [F] hit it first time some hit it some take it some take a few goes at it [B] but I think most bands [Em] that that do take a few goes [E] at it uh we generally find that they actually find that they'd rather play it [A] now because they've developed their sound [B] they're better now than if we [E] yeah and if we played three years ago we wouldn't have been the band that we are now so sometimes [A] you need to you know. I said this um when we did the [F] 2009 one I don't think we were the right genre [Bm] for it and then we just kept plugging [F] away writing new stuff and eventually we found. Well I think I think Bloodstock's [A] probably diversified a bit since [F] then as well I mean we got Skindred tonight we had Ghost last night you know [Am] uh Courtesans are on this afternoon there's lots of different genres here now as well so. We're banging on the Viking Metal as well all over that. Yeah yeah. I thought we were working towards a bit of Pyromania. And the other thing as well about Bloodstock as well is that [E] you know they keep tabs on the bands it's not [G] like you know you've had your shot on the [Am] New Blood that's it [C] you'll see bands that progress up to the Sophie and then even onto the main. We had the [A] Merasma yeah exactly they said they [F#] played at the um um New Blood. [C#] And then we had the Cambian here that played on the on [Em] the main stage last year and they came you know four times they took to win Metals of [C] the Masses and then they went from New Blood to [Em] Sophie to the main stage last year so you know [C#] it's it's all it just depends you know when you're on [C#] Bloodstock's radar [F#m] and so we also said to a lot of the bands as well because the Metals for the Masses can be such a long process [A] for it that you're just sort of [Em] like poof end of the journey but it's not this is the [E] start this is a springboard now and now you are we [Em] have played at Bloodstock you'll [A] get gigs you'll get the Metals for the Masses [E] next year we'll be like you know last year's winners we want you to come back and play the semi-final the final and things like that yeah because we had Hell's Gazelles that played the final last year in 2015 that were here [Gm] Well [F] Cole's a legend I mean he's [F#] helped me out massively with the podcast he's been [A] reporting on the Oxford Metals for the Masses sending in the updates and things like that and he's you know a real I mean they when they played here in 2015 they were awesome they were so good and again you know they're a rock band they're not they're not a metal band but they're just so good and so entertaining you know they were they were [F] you know clearly the band to be here but you saw when they when they played here like you know two years on from playing Bloodstock they were twice the band that they were when they played here even then you know [C#] so they definitely [E] yeah yeah massive shout out to [Bm] Sam Tomlin from [Am] Oxrocks who we really buddied with [A] and she got some great gigs in Oxford [G] and it's nice to venture out so [E] yeah cool so uh yeah you mentioned a wedding there earlier on you got a bit of a thing with weddings you guys [A] because I remember having the chat to you afterwards and uh one of you uh literally was like what what [E] day are we playing on then because he's on his [E] honeymoon [A] and he's come back [F#] from his honeymoon to play [D] this and then gone again or [F#m] his wife actually [A] uh changed [B] the date so he's supposed to leave on the Friday she [A] changed him to the Saturday so he's left on the Saturday so [Dm] that was pretty good of her god [E] bless you Emma [Em] [F#m]
yeah he's taken on a romantic honeymoon [D] to the Isle of Wight with his dog uh [A] yeah all the best Lambo so uh yeah yeah [D] uh so yeah [F#] a wedding we played last [F] night for a [D] family for meal and uh [A] so we've come back for that so [F#] yeah so you've been so you [A] thought now Sod Ghost we're gonna [C#] go and play this wedding yeah [F#m] yeah yeah yeah [A] yeah king yeah so you're here for the rest of the day anyway yeah which any other bands are you looking forward to that's still still here skin dread yeah totally totally yeah [Gm] yeah absolutely I'm here for Mega Dave bit arch [G] enemy for me as well I've got a bit of [C] a crush I think [D] we all have I think you'll be honest we've got to try and interview them later on and that's going to be [Gm] fun so uh yeah [A] okay give them my number well enjoy the rest of the weekend guys and uh well done I'm glad your set went so well and after seeing you guys in Oxford it was really good to see you here so uh yeah okay cheers [B] guys [A]
