[Gm] This is freedom, [F] [Eb] this is [Bb] freedom, nailed to a tree.
[Eb] Oh, [Bb] this is freedom.
This is a tough [Gm] song to talk about because it's very, very personal for me.
But I [Eb] remember [Bb] my publisher setting me up to write with Sarah Hart.
And I have to admit, as a new [Eb] songwriter, I was [Bb] scared to death.
Sarah [F] Hart [Gm] is an incredible writer.
And she was just coming off the [Eb] heels of [Bb] the latest Amy Grant hit, Better Than [Gm] Hallelujah,
of which I was a total fan.
And so I was very [Bb] nervous going in to write with Sarah that day.
I [F] barely slept the [Gm] night before because I was trying to think of [Bb] some brilliant song idea
that [Eb] I could bring in that day, and [Dm] absolutely [F] nothing came to me.
[Bb] And I was driving to EMI that day to write with her, just praying,
Lord, please give me something brilliant [F] that's going to [Bb] change people's lives
and really make an impact and really [Eb] reveal [Bb] you to them.
And [F] as I walked into [Gm] the room that day, I still didn't have a title idea,
which made me even more nervous.
[Eb] But the minute [Bb] I met Sarah, we were like old [F] friends, and [Gm] she was so kind and so welcoming.
[D] And [Bb] so [Eb] most of the time in the songwriting room, [Bb] you sit there for [Fm] sometimes [Bb] a couple of hours
just getting to know each other and telling your stories.
[Eb] And as we talked that [F] day and told each other our [Gm] stories,
God revealed over coffee [Bb] exactly what we [Eb] were supposed to write that day.
And [Bb] so we had to, [F] I look back [Bb] now and I realize that God showed up right on time,
just like he always [Eb] does.
[Bb] And as we were talking, [F] we [Gm] just talked about [F] the freedom that we have found in [Bb] Christ
[Eb] and the peace that [Bb] we have knowing that he gave the [F] ultimate sacrifice [Gm] so that we could be free.
[F] And [Eb] this song was born [Bb] that day.
She started playing that [F] intro [Gm] part that sounded almost hymn-like to me.
[F] And [Bb] I'm kind of a sucker for old hymns, so I [F] immediately [Bb] gravitated towards the idea and loved it.
And to be honest, [Eb] it's difficult for me to sing this [F] song without [Gm] getting choked up
because I [Bb] was the girl that [Eb] wandered for a long time on a broken road.
And I [F] definitely felt [Bb] bruised and battered at times and not sure how to carry [F] on.
[Eb] But when I finally [F] let go [Gm] of the guilt of my yesterdays [F] and [Eb] allowed God's grace to cover my [Bb] tomorrows,
I found the freedom that he longs to give all of us if we'll just accept it.
[Eb] It's the [Bb] greatest gift of all.
[F] And [Gm] the coolest thing is that we have been given the freedom to choose it.
That's [Eb] all we have to do.
[Bb] So I hope that you'll choose Jesus and allow him into your life and [Gm] to love you beyond [Bb] anything you've ever experienced.
It's the freedom that [G] he wants to give us all.
But the [Bb] best part is [Ebm] that [Bb] it's not a temporary freedom.
[Bb] It's for eternity.
[Eb] [F] [Gm] [F]
[Eb] [Bb] For [Eb] eternity.
[Bb] [F] [Gm] [Eb] [Bb] [F] [Bb]
