[G] [D] Welcome back everyone.
Well, she has been called the queen of Christian pop and is the best-selling contemporary Christian music singer ever.
For three decades now, she's been teaching fans of all walks of life how mercy looks from here, which happens to be the title of her new album.
And that's why she's in our spotlight today.
Please welcome the lovely and talented Amy [Gb] Grant.
I [B] feel [Gb] it now, it's all the time of my life.
[B] I'm drunk with [Gb] fear and
[Gb] afraid of what I say.
How are you?
[B] You're looking beautiful and all flowy today.
Thank [N] you.
I feel flowy.
It's the day before Thanksgiving and I noticed you tweeted out to your followers.
You asked them what their favorite Thanksgiving dish was.
Oh, yes.
Yeah, so what is your favorite Thanksgiving dish, Amy?
Oh my, well, cheese grits.
Oh.
Because I'm [Dm] a southern woman.
I love cheese [Eb] grits too.
Cheese grits, everybody.
Yeah.
We've got a few southerners here.
And do you have big plans for the holidays?
Do you have a big group and do you do it at your house or?
We're going to have, um, Vince and I are married and it's a second marriage for him.
But his daughter, Jenny, that I inherited, we're all going to have Thanksgiving together.
So Vince, his ex, Janice, her dad, Harry, [D] and Jenny, and her husband, Josh, and Josh's mom and stepdad.
Wow.
That's so civilized, Amy.
Yeah.
I think that's really nice that you're able to do that.
Because you, I know, you and Vince have been married for 13 years and as you mentioned, he had a daughter, right?
Yes.
And then you had three kids.
So you were this instant blended family.
How was that initially?
Was that difficult?
Are you seeking some advice for the future?
Maybe.
Maybe.
You know, I laugh about our wedding day because all of our photographs I refer to my grim-faced children.
Oh, really?
Because Vince and I were the only excited ones.
It just took some time.
It just takes time and it's okay to let it.
[Eb] It's okay.
Meanwhile, I wanted to ask you about the song, How Mercy Looks From Here.
Because this is a song that you wrote when you were going through some hard times.
Tell me about the genesis of that song.
Actually, I had the idea, How Mercy Looks From Here, because so many times when a hard situation was going on, there was always an incredible bright side to it.
In May, the floodwaters in Nashville reached their peak.
And Vince and I lost hundreds of thousands of dollars of musical instruments, [D] as did everybody in Nashville.
Then Tuesday, my musician friend that I toured with for years had taken his life.
And so his funeral was Tuesday.
Thursday, my cousin Adam Spain was killed in Afghanistan.
He's six years younger than I am and worked [Bb] for the government.
And then Saturday, Jenny got [Eb] married, our oldest.
And I just used the context of the flood to talk about, you know, that you find good things in [G] hard times.
Well, I know that you sang it last year on the show.
We just wanted to run a clip so people, after hearing that description, could actually listen to a little bit of the song.
That's [C] when vow has grace peace [C] unseen angels [Em] hover near [C] say to sing it loud [G] and clear.
Oh, how mercy [D] looks [Em] from here.
[C] Oh, how mercy [G] looks from here.
[C] [G] Recently, [C] one reviewer wrote about you online.
[Eb] Amy Grant is a true talent who whose music touches people of all ages from all different walks of life.
I know you've been singing now, Amy, for 35 years.
I know you got your first recording contract when you were just 16 years old.
So to have someone write this about you and about your staying power and your appeal, that must be very gratifying, is it?
I never dreamed at 15 or 16 I would still get to do something I love so much.
And thank you for reading that.
[N] Well, it's a blessing, right?
And so are you.
And I'm always so happy to see you, Amy.
And I hope you and Vince and the whole group have a great Thanksgiving.
Thank you so much for coming.
And by the way, everyone in our audience is getting a copy of Amy's CD, How Mercy Looks From Here.

We'll [F] be right back.
