[E] He's enjoyed a successful career from Grammys to hit [B] records and has written the title [G#] tracks for box [G] office hits such [F#] as Caddyshack, Top Gun [C#] and Footloose.
You would think with such a long [F#] list of accomplishments that there would [A] be no doubt realizing that one had reached their [Bm] goals.
[D] Not Kenny.
_ Well you know you figure [Gm] that out as an artist [A] in waves as you go [D] along.
Certainly the [F#] completion of the first [G] album, the Loggins and [Am] Messina's Sittin' In album, [Em] _ made me [G] realize that I was actually in this business.
_ _ _ _ [C] And then _ there are [F#m] landmark moments.
There's winning the [Gm] Grammy _ [G#] for This Is [B] It, there's _ _ [G#] _ Footloose which came along when _ [G] I thought disco was going [Gm] to bury me.
_ And the [G] next thing I know I had a number [F] one record.
_ [E] The whole movie period _ [A] kept _ [D] me going and it's _ [G] been a sweet career. _
_ [A] It seems as though [D] every artist [B] records a Christmas CD at one time [Am] or another in their career.
[B] _ But what [C] separates Kenny's CD [G] from the rest is the reason for its [E] creation and the spirit in [A] which it was recorded.

_ _ _ _ _ [Gm] There's so many Christmas albums [C] out there that people are looking to see what's the difference [F] between this and all the others other [B] than it's Kenny Loggins.
[E] And I think that if you give it a [A] listen you'll discover that [D] there's a [F#m] quality to this album that's very different.
[D] I picked the material and I wrote some material _ _ [E] so that I could make a very romantic [F#] Christmas record that [D] would [G] flow from the beginning to the end.

As if it was one [D] piece like in a movie [G] where you have this mood that you don't [C] want interrupted.

[F#] And [A#] I wanted to make just a very beautiful record.
[D] _ The [Bm] new material, [G#] I have [G] four [A] new songs that I wrote [B] myself _ _ _ _ _ that I wrote in a more [D] old fashioned style.
So they sort of musically feel more [A] [C] akin to the songs from the 40s and [F#] 50s but _ [Am] lyrically they're very much present time.
They're very much relevant [B] to who we are as a people [C] today. _ _ _
[Am] Unfortunately for a [G] lot of people [F#m] Christmas [B] is not [Em] a very joyous [G] holiday.
_ Kenny refers [Gm] to this time as being [C] quote, _ bittersweet [F] and has written the title track December to reflect on the other [B] side of the season, the emotional side.
[E] _ You know you notice that there are [Bm] differences today.
Things [D] that we're willing to talk about that people [A] weren't willing to talk about in the 40s.
[D] _ _ _ _ Not to be a downer but the truth is the winter [F#m] season and the Christmas season _ [G] _ every year it has the highest rate of [Am] suicides in the country.
Well why is that?

I think it's [G#] because _ [G] while everybody is pretending [C] to have a good time a whole lot of [Bm] people are feeling on the [E] outside looking in.
And they feel totally alone and [D] isolated.
And [Bm] nobody's [G#] talking about that.
[C#] And I think that [B] if we can [F#m] acknowledge that there is some [Bm] sadness to this season.
It's a bittersweet [G] time.
_ And [F#m] that _ sadness [G#] is natural.
_ [G] Comes [D] with the season and it's okay.
I mean just _ [A#] to say if you feel alone know that you're not.
And that all of us [Gm] take turns feeling that way.
Feeling that there's a party going on that somehow [A] I couldn't figure out why everybody is so happy but me.
_ [Dm] _ And so by [A] acknowledging that and singing [F] about it as [G] just [Bm] part of what is. _ _
_ _ It's no [D] big deal anymore. _ _
And so that's the song called December on the album that just says [A] this is the sweetest time and this can be the saddest time.
And that's okay.
