[G]
Sometimes I feel like a man in a cannon, about to go hurtling through.
Space would last [Em] fast, soon [G] as the match hits [C] the fuse.
[D] We kind of just [G] straight up acoustic guitar [Em] and [G] bass and drums and keys, but I mean I didn't even play it [Em] solo.
When we [G] tracked it, I just played all acoustic on it.
[Em] And then went back, it's one of [G] the times, few times [C] where we just left the solo wide open and overdubbed it later.
[G] And it's like my return to playing slide, I haven't played slide guitar since my third [Em] album.
[C]
[G] Rollin' world round [D] again, someplace we've never [Em] been.
Rollin'
Cause I'm [G] not, you know, I'm not [C] like the world's [G] greatest slide player.
And this is a really simple [D]
slide solo, but what I like [Em] about it is, first of all that it's simple.
[C]
So like anybody who's trying to play [D] slide can play it.
But also it's like, I'm playing it on the, I think it's on the ES-335.
And the [E] action's pretty low on [G] that guitar.
And [D] so [Em] you can actually hear [D] like the [G] slide [F#] resting [Em] on the frets.
[D] Yeah, but I like that.
Yeah, I know, but [G] it's cool.
It creates this [Em] really weird [G] effect that you don't normally hear in slide.
[E] Because most of the time slide players want to stay [D] away from that sound.
[C]
That element, the piano, the way [G] Noah lifts that vocal in the [Em] chorus.
The song's [D] just got this sort of [G] twisted positivity to [Em] it.
Did you ever notice that?
[D] Like the whole song.
Right.
Like, I mean, lyric and melody [Em]
notwithstanding.
[G] But the whole song just sort of feels like it wants to, like, [C] it wants you [G] to gallop with it.
And feel the wind blow in your hair.
Right.
You know what I mean?
[Em]
[C]
[G]
[D] Like the whole first verse, [Em]
sometimes, [C]
it's like, it's literally like a sentence.
[G]
It's a sentence [D]
divided into verses.
[Em]
[C]
[D]
[Em] And I love the way Noah broke it up too.
You know, when he says, [A] space with lash fast.
Yeah.
Soon as the match is fused.
It's [Em] like almost like these little high keys.
But that's Mark Selby, man.
Noah delivered it [A] incredibly well.
But like that's the beauty of Mark.
Because he [Em] sang it that way on the demo.
And it's like he just had that instinct.
The way that he's able [A] to tell that story singing it.
And you're kind of like, what is he saying?
But if you [C] look at it on paper, it's just one sentence.
Right, but they're all separate [D] thoughts inside that sentence.
Which is clever.
Yeah, it really is.
[Em]
I've become really [C]
attached to the Hey [G] Fellow Traveler, keep traveling.
Like, we're all [D] in this together.
Absolutely.
It's just, [Bm]
we're on a journey [C] and all you can do is keep moving forward.
[G] Yeah.
You know, there's a real optimism to [D] it that I love.
I love [Em] this song.
Yeah, man, this is [C] one of my favorite songs on the record.
