[E] [N] Alright, so when my [E] daughter Savannah was born, [N] which is 27 years ago, John and [Gbm] I wrote
this little song here [Eb] about that feeling [D] of mortality that you get [F] when you [Ab] start piling
up the kids.
And [N]
nowadays, [Ab] Savannah is now, she's grown up and she's in a band [Dm] called the [Gb] Trishes.
And cool.
And they [Abm] oftentimes close their shows with this song.
And it's really a [A] beautiful and weird [G] thing to see her singing the song that was written for her.
Plus, she's about six months pregnant.
So it's like, [N] you know, the circle apparently will not be unbroken.
[E]
And I guess if I'm going to keep singing this song [F] for much longer, I'm going [Gb] to have to
start [N] rewriting the lyrics.
[E]
[A]
[E] [B]
[E]
Death must be the [B] wind.
[E] You can close your window [A] tight, and it [E] still comes [B]
blowing [E] in.
So [A] I will [E] climb the highest hill, and I'll watch the rising sun.
[B] And [E] I pray that I won't feel [A] the chill [E] till I'm too [B] old to [E] die young.
[A] Let me watch [D] my [A] children [E] grow to see what they become.
[B]
[E] Lord, don't let that cold [A] wind blow till [E] I'm too old [B] to [E] die young.
[A]
[E] [B]
[E]
I have had some real good friends.
I thought I would never [B] die.
But [E] now all that I've got left of [A] them are [E] these [B] teardrops in my [E] eye.
So if I [A] could [E] have one wish today, and I could know [A] [E] it would be [B] done,
[E] I'd say everyone [A] could
stay till [E] they're too old [B] to die [E] young.
[A] Let me watch my [D] [A] children [E] grow
[Gb] to see [E] what they [B] become.
[E] Lord, don't let that cold [A] wind blow till [E] I'm too old [B]
to die [E] young.
[Am] Let me watch my [C] [N] children grow to see what they become.
Lord, don't let that cold wind blow till I'm too old to die young.
Till I'm too old to [Abm]
[Ab] die young.
[N]
