[G] On March 4th, Kimo Hussie, the [C] author of He Mele Aloha, the Hawaiian Songbook, is going
to be [G] starting a series of ukulele lessons.
For [C] 8 weeks on Sundays at 2pm, Kimo and friends will [G] teach you how to play ukulele and more
importantly what to [C] practice.
For a low $35 per [D] hour, you'll be able to kanika pilo with your [C] friends.
Class [G] sizes are limited to no more than 10, so [C] get going.
What are you waiting for?
[Em] Call 261-6142.
[Em] That's 261 [E]
[Am]-6142.
[Cm] Hello again, I'm Kimo Hussie here again to tell you about [Gb] the ukulele program that we're
instituting at the Kailua Music School.
The last time we were together, we talked just a little bit about the left hand and
how we choose to address [Gm] the left hand in our sessions together.
This time I would like to address the right hand.
In my estimation, the right hand is the most neglected aspect of ukulele training and [Gb] the
reason for that is [Ab] more often than not we're concerned about [G] what the left hand needs to do.
In addition to that, a lot [Ab] of times the right hand is just [N] there strumming, strumming, strumming
and there's nothing wrong with that.
But what we'd like to do with the right hand first of all is to isolate it from the left
hand because when we do that, we're able [G] to take a look a lot easier at certain things
that we need to learn and practice.
First of all, all the right hand has to do is either strum or pick.
[Gb] Rather than do exercises, what we're going to do in order to learn to strum and to pick
is to do that through songs that we play together and that we learn.
The other thing I would like to mention with regard to the right hand is it is the best
way in ukulele playing for you to put emotion into your music.
You know, I think the reason why we enjoy ukulele so much is that it has a certain emotional
impact to us that we enjoy and we appreciate.
And again, I want to tell you that the right hand in my estimation is the best way to put
emotion into [Ab] your music.
We will take a look at two ways to do [Bb] that.
Number one is what we call in music dynamics, which is controlling loud and soft.
The next thing that we're going to do in order to address right hand technique is to talk
about various tempo, speeds of the music.
And sometimes in the same [Ab] song and within the same phrase, we can adjust the speed of
the music [Bb] just a little bit to add color [Bm] or emotion to the music.
[F] Let me see if I can end this session by playing [Ab] something for you that will highlight our
[Eb] right hand techniques.
