Thank you very [N] much.
Here's a song about, by my favorite American songwriter, Woody Guthrie.
He wrote this song after drinking an entire gallon of Chateau de Cadbury.
He wrote it all from a newspaper story.
And it is actually a true story about [F] a character named Pretty Boy Floyd who operated out of Oklahoma.
[C] He's as [A#] close [C#] to Robin Hood as the American dream.
[G]
[D] Yeah, when we children, the story I will tell, about Pretty Boy Floyd, the outlaw of Oklahoma in the wild.
[G] [D] So I see the town of Shawnee on a Saturday, [G] with his wife [D] beside him in a white, yellow, tinted, [G] tan, new, red veil.
Well, Deputy Cheryl caught him in the matter of that groove, using vulgar [D] words like,
[E] had his wife shield [G] her.
Well, Pretty Boy grabbed the long chain, the deputy grabbed the gun,
and in the [D] fight that followed, he laid [G] that deputy down.
And to the winds and tempers, [C] he lived a [G] life of shame.
Every crime he knew he'd [D] fall for, [Em] was laid on to [G] his men.
He took to the river bottoms along your North Canadian shore,
and he [D] started a fire, [C] for the hand that he'd do.
He ran a little farm, had a lot of storage in there.
Pretty Boy paid a [D] mortgage, [C] and he saved a little home.
That jellified stranger, [Em] who came to [G] beg me,
underneath [D] his napkin, [E] left a thousand [G] dollar bill.
And all the hardware city [C] was on Christmas Day.
[G]
I'm a whole wagon load [D] of foot groceries, [Am] and don't [G] know what to say.
You say that I'm an [D] outlaw, [C] you say that [G] I'm for thieves.
Well, here's to [D] Christmas Day, [C] for your family's [D] all to leave.
[G]
And around this world I've rambled, [C] I've seen many [G] plagues.
Some will [D] rob you, get a six gun, [C] and some [G] will foul the day.
But as through your life you ramble on,
as [C] through your [G] life you roam, you'll never [D] see your home.
[C] Drive the family [D] from their home.
[G] [N]
