Hello boys and girls, Nico with you from Iron Maiden here, and I would like to present to you my Legacy of the Beast
wonderful Sonor drum set.
I really am
extremely excited to be able to sit here and go over a
little about this beautiful drum set that I've been using on the Legacy of the Beast tour.
This drum set was built for me by Sonor.
The wood is the German beech wood, which is an absolutely phenomenal
dense wood, very hard, gives you a phenomenal sound.
They've been making amazing drums forever.
This is a 6x8
9 ply medium beech shell, and this is the same for the whole of the drum set around in the 9 ply medium
SQ2.
This is a 6x8.
This was made specially for me.
It's very difficult.
If you boys and girls out there would like to buy a replica of this drum set sometime,
which we may offer to you,
this one might be a bit difficult.
But anyway, it's a 6x8.
[Ab]
This one next to it, which is 8x8.
[Db]
[C]
We'll hear those two next to one another.
[Fm]
[N] Nice.
So 6x8, 8x8.
Then we have a 10x10.
Then we have a 12x12.
Nice, eh?
Now we go 12 to 13.
[Abm]
Beautiful sound.
13x13.
14x14.
15x15.
[N]
Now we're getting serious.
Then we have on the floor,
we have an 18x16 floor.
Sounds like a bloody bass drum, doesn't it?
[Abm]
Oh my sweet Lord.
Okay, then we have, I'll get to the bass drum last.
Actually, no, I'll give you that now.
That's a 24 diameter by 18 deep.
Wanna hear it?
And of course, the beast snare drum.
[N]
[Db]
[Abm]
[Bb] Well, well, [Eb] well.
Upon [N] my life, what a stunning drum set.
So there you have it.
This is all the sizes of my drums.
Moving on to the hardware.
You may notice
it's not chrome.
Not chrome chrome.
Not silver chrome.
The normal
chrome that we have on drum sets is what we call
silver chrome.
I call it white chrome.
You could call it what you like, but chrome's chrome, right?
We know that.
This is smoked chrome.
All the hardware on the drums and the rims, everything on this drum set is smoked chrome.
The reason I fell in love with the smoked chrome is because of the artwork on the drum set.
It's pretty unique
to the tour Legacy of the Beast and each drum has its own story relating to the stage set and
to the history of this
Legacy tour, if you like.
What this does, if it was really dark black chrome,
I think it would have taken away from the impact of the artwork on each of the drums.
So in other words, the guys over there and Sona really pulled
the rabbit out that out the hat with using the smoked chrome because they realized much more so dramatically
this artwork would stand out and they were right.
It's stunning.
Now the beautiful thing with with an SQ2 series drum set is you can put anything you like on the shell.
As you may or may not know, I'm a born-again Christian.
If you didn't know that, you do now.
And so I put the cross, symbol of the cross on this drum, tip of the mic to the governor.
The 8-inch, we have an Eddie Jaguar, which is the
the growler, they call it, for the Jaguar brand of motorcars because I'm a massive Jag fan.
On this one, we've got Fear of the Dark Eddie.
Over here, I've got Number of the Beast Eddie.
On this one, I've got one of my favorite Ed's of all time, is Somewhere Back in Time.
Over here, obviously, we've got the governor, trooper governor, Eddie.
On this drum over here, we've got the Seventh Son Eddie with his head on fire.
That's nice.
Over here, we have Killer's Eddie.
Down here on the floor, Tom, I've got the very first album I worked with Iron Maiden.
Therefore, he gets the biggest artwork, the biggest canvas, as we call it.
Over on the bass drum, we've got Iron Maiden Eddie down there on one side.
On the other side, we've got Eddie from Matter of Life and Death.
And that's about it.
I'm very happy to have spent this time.
Thank you for sharing it with me.
I thank Sona, Karl Heinz Mansell, Tomas Barth, and all the guys at Sona that built this beautiful drum kit.
Thank you so very much.
I love you all very much.
And here we go.
I'll play a little bit for you.
How's that?
Sound good?
Okay.
